Verizon 6700 MSFP/AKU2 ROM Update - READ 1ST POST BEFORE POSTING TO THIS THREAD!!!
If you are going to post in this thread, it should contain useful information that furthers the topic at hand. The Sprint ROM upgrade thread was filled with users making meaningless/useless comments and that made the thread too large and unreadable for many. Please try to be considerate of your fellow forum members and only post in this thread if you feel the information is relevant and useful to other members in regards to the ROM upgrade. Also, please refrain from posting comment like "ROM update worked great for me" (we have a poll for that) or "downloading it now!!" or "can't wait!!. Posts like those will be deleted without notice.
The Sprint PPC-6700 ROM upgrade thread can be found here. It may be useful in troubleshooting any issues with the Verizon ROM upgrade.
Also, this thread is not the place for newbie type questions like "whats is AKU2?" or "what does this ROM upgrade do?" or "I have a (carrier name) 6700, can I use this update?"
Please read the title and if it isn't immediately clear to you what this thread is about, you should use the search function of this board and/or google to get answers to these basic types of questions. There will likely be a lot of troubleshooting going on in this thread and that should not be interrupted by people asking and others having to stop and answer basic questions. You should read the ENTIRE thread before asking a question.
WinRAR happily opens the corrupted file and gives me the information on the ROMs contained within. The files were last modified 2/24/2006. That means that they've been "testing" this for four months and apparently found nothing wrong in that time because, if they did, they'd have updated the files to fix it (in theory).
W0rdie - It's a ROM update for the Verizon version of this phone. Since it appears you're on Bell South this does not apply to you. AKU2 is just technical speak for the ROM based on the 2.0 build of Windows Mobile.
Just got off tech support line with Starcom. They know the file is corrupt and it is supposed to be fixed this afternoon... ever heard that before Anyways just though you guys would want to know. Here is the release infor from the DOC file
4. Download the Maintenance Release version: APAC_VZW_20720_200_11000_Ship.exe to your computer. Do not attempt to run it from its current location.
Verizon XV-6700 Maintenance Release
This software update makes available some new features and corrects some issues. Some of the primary enhancements are:
• Microsoft Messaging and Security Feature Pack- The Messaging & Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0 enables business users to easily stay connected to their email while on the go and helps businesses to better protect device data.
Benefits of this feature pack include:
• Direct Push Technology- Keep your Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Inbox up-to-date using Direct Push Technology. Plus, you can now browse your corporate address book over-the-air with Exchange 2003 SP2. Faster transfer and synchronization of data- Outlook data sent between Exchange Server and a Windows Mobile-based device is significantly compressed, enabling faster transfer and synchronization of data.
• Better protection of device data and management of devices
o Remotely enforced IT policy
o Local and remote device wipe
o Certificate-based authentication
• Enhanced security using Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME)
• Added a Voice Dialing application to allow you to leverage the handsfree capability already on the device.
• Main Today Screen provides you the capability to lock the device and prevent inadvertently activity.
• Corrected an issue where unknowingly, to the user, the device would enter into "Flight Mode"
• Added the capability to enable Wi-Fi and CDMA simultaneously.
I probably won't have time to do the upgrade until tomorrow or even Friday
In the mean time, could one of you early adopters determine if VZW found a way to really disable tethering this time instead of just hiding wmodem? If I can't ever tether, I can't upgrade....
I suspect it is AKU 2.0-based (going on the ROM version numbering), but cleblanc or someone else who installs it--please report the WM build number (can be found by going to Settings->System tab->About [it's on the second line]).
Lucky ducks got AKU 2.2! At a minimum that means you're not stuck with the useless new battery meter in the top bar (though it's your choice). I am unsure as to what other improvements are in 2.2, but I'm pretty sure A2DP is not included since MS has had so many issues with it.
Mine works. USB DUN works fine after enabling WModem the same way as before. I haven't been having much luck with Bluetooth, though.
Thank you. BT has always been flaky for me anyway, at least if USB works I can use it when I absolutly need to. I am still trying to talk my boss into an EVDO card, but my telecom costs are already out of control so the chances are slim to none unless I drop the daa plan on my PDA.
Anyway, I'll be upgrading by tomorrow night, if not tonight.
Has anyone been able to find out what other additional changes have been made in this update besides the one listed. The following is mentioned on the update doc.
An updated User Manual is available on the UTStarcom website detailing the changes in the Maintenance Release.
I couldn't find this info anywhere, I thought it would mention every change. If not, we should create a new topic or use this one that details all the changes we have found. (for those who have already updated)
Works fine. I am not sure why I've been waiting so eagerly for this to come out. I don't need push mail and everything else seems to be the same. I was expecting a quicker device but it is still as slow as before.
