There is a document that UTStar is hosting with the application. In this document you will find the instructions step by step on what you need to do. I know that your memory card will not be affected by the update but i don't know if you will need to reinstall the programs on it in order for WM5 to recognize that they are there.
If you click on the "1x" icon at the top of the screen after a connection has been established we no longer have the "Disconnect" option. I guess the only way to disconnect is to turn the radio off and back on.
As far as stopping the Verizon Customizations, after the device resets it will ask you to align the screen and after that you will get a "window" that says that it is installing all the customizations. You have three seconds before it does that. Restart your device by using your stylus to poke the little hole just to the left of the mini USB slot if you are holding your device screen up. As far as what each cab does in the ext rom and how to unlock the extended rom, you can either do a search here or go to ppc6700users.com and search there for how to do it. I have not personally done it since I don't really care what they install. I have found though that the device is much more stable and quicker after having installed all the programs that I had before the update. Have fun!
How literal is the "close all applications on the device" instruction?
Hi,
Just wondering how literal that instruction in the release notes is? I mean, do I have to uninstall applications that are running in the today screen like Phone Alarm, and applications such as Voice Command and Magic Buttton before running update?
I assume those are non critical, and they only mean to close apps that show up in the task list in the settings/memory window.
I'm going to run the update tonight when I get home...I hope to get it right the first time.
I was just telling someone in the office, that has this phone as well, I was going to update the phone when I got home, and he asked me a question that freaked me out. I can't believe I was about to do this without understanding this.
What happens to all the phone number specific settings that verizon sets up when you setup the phone? Do I have to program the phone with my phone number somewhere after to the update?
I haven't seen anyone say anything about this, but that could mean you all know something I don't too.

These phones are identified on the network by an ESN, or electronic serial number. All phone specific information you speak of is related to this ESN. The phone number will be there.
Good luck, and have fun with your upgraded phone

This information is stored on a seperate chip and is not effected by the upgrade.
So from my understanding... the only thing you would lose are possibly customization or hacks that may get overwritten and the verizon specific setup stuff (ringtones and other branding?) if you cancel before the cabs install.
I installed the update the day it came out. All of a sudden, tonight, when I get a new e-mail (from exchange server) the pop up notification on the bottom of the screen contains a preview of the message whereas it used to just say "1 new email". Anyone else notice this? It's a useful feature, just strange that it started out of nowhere. I haven't done anything that I can think of that would effect this. (I installed AvantGo yesterday, but I can't see how that could do anything).
After the update I noticed if I set up a pin the phone shows 3 numbers of my pin after I type it in until I hit the ok in he top right corner. Not a lot of privacy there.
I have hard reset my phone a few times and reinstalled the update twice. Same problems. Nothing changes.

I think it is when there is only 1 message that it does this.
After reading all the posts contained in this thread I decided to upgrade my Vzw XV-6700 yesterday and here's my results.
So far, everything is back to the way it was prior to the upgrade for the exception of a couple of things. I'll talk about them in a moment but first the positives.
-It does appear that the device is "quicker" after the update and that's with only the Glyph-cache changed to increase video as I had it prior to the upgrade. 'Boot' time from a soft reset is clearly faster although I don't have exact times from prior to compare to.
-Bluetooth has changed; for the better. I don't know if it's a different BT stack but now my unit syncs every time with my Daimler/Chrysler U-Connect hands-free system in my car. Before I could only get it to sync when I went into the BT settings and searched for the BT device, now once I setup the car on the phone it syncs when the car is started and holds that sync. Operation with U-Connect is as it was with my old Moto V710.
-EV-DO has changed as well. Surfing speed seems about 1/3rd faster than before. Probably has to do with some reg hacks VZW has included but there is a noticeable difference.
-Reception and battery-life appear to be the same but I'm monitoring for a full week before I conclude that fully.
-ROM size is different, or more specifically I have more space on my unit. I did not cancel the VZW customizations, I let them throw everything that was included in the new ROM. Thus I still have 28MB free after loading ABD Weather, Picture dial, Pocket Informant 05, and a couple of other programs. I still haven't gotten the rest of my programs back on but I'll discuss that in the *problems* section.
Issues...It's not really fair to say problems but my upgrade wasn't hiccup-free.
-Activesync: I had the lovely Active sync error, Support Code:85010014. After reading here and on pages from Google I narrowed my problem down to cached Exchange settings in Outlook. Un-installing Outlook and AS 4.1 and re-loading worked for me but YMMV.
-Extended Rom: Pre-update I used the EXT_ROM2 area for applications. Primarily MS Voice Command, Sprite backup, VXUtils and a couple of other smaller apps. Post update I am unable to install a program on the rom and have it work and yes I have applied the Buzz's APA Extended Rom unlocker. I also have that partition show up in Total Commander and the installer lets me install there but when I try to run the program I get an error that the application is missing component and to re-install. I've tried this with several applications included VxUtils which is a 'simple' app as well as apps I had in there before.
OK, this probably a 'just me' thing, but anything encoded with the Windows Media 9 encoder does not show video, only plays audio. Worked before What did I miss (probably forum post on the issue is my guess)
It is not just you! The new update has trouble with Windows Media Player video. Some times it will play it fine, other times it will give you a black screen with audio. I stream video to my phone from my Windows Media Server and never (rarely) had any issues with the old rom. With this new rom, video is a real problem. And it is not specific to a certain file or stream. It some times works and sometimes does not work. For me I get the black screen with audio more often then the video. To make it worse, ones you get the black screen it is hard to get the video back, unless you stop using the player for a while.
NOTE: WHen I say video I am talking about the video in the player not the regular windows graphics and UI.
For those of you wondering about A2DP:
The A2DP hack works great! Search this forum for more info on A2DP. My stereo Moto's sounds great. A tip, if you install it you may need to soft reset twice. On my first software reset after installing the hack I got intermittent audio. After soft resetting it again it all work good and I have had no problems with it.
I haven't been brave enough to install the Verizon update as of yet and deeply appreciate all those who are reporting to the forum
If possible…can anyone confirm for me specifically that if the updated ROM causes me any hassles (i.e. can’t get my bt headset to work) how I go back to the old ROM if it’s even possible?? I’ve seen some posts that seem to indicate a hard reset; however, other posts talk about doing a hard reset as part of the install. If at all possible I would prefer to have a method to revert back to the original ROM before I give it a shot.
I have the Jabra Jx10 and the website states that it isn’t compatible with the 6700; though, it’s worked fine so far. I’ve seen the post by Fuzzy suggesting after the new ROM is installed if you loose audio, that you should be able to press and hold the bluetooth button on your headset while the device is in the new key lock mode and audio will restore.
I’m also using SPB Backup if that can help me in any way.
Currently I am running the new ROM without the Verizon customizations.
I tried what you've suggested with WModem, but my laptop still doesn't detect that my 6700 has a DUN profile.
Keep in mind, without the Verizon customizations I cannot dial ##3328873 to enable BT DUN.
Is this a critical step if you don't have the customizations?
Is there an equivalent Registry Entry to alter?
Or do I just have to run the Customize CAB to get the Verizon EPST alterations?
With the Sprint 6700, stopping the customizations like you have done with your Verizon model makes trying to enter codes useless (need the Sprint customizations in order for the phone to respond to them). I suspect it may also be the same case for the Verizon 6700. Your best bet is to selectively alter the extended ROM so that only necessary Verizon customizations are installed. Do a thread title only search for "junkware" to see how to alter the extended ROM and another thread title only search for "breakdown" for a breakdown/description of the cabs in the Verizon extended ROM so you know which cabs to delete. The cabs files in the extended ROM are responsible for the Verizon customizations.
