I got the comm error several times mentioned in the upgrade guide - it warns against disconnecting the usb cable during the upgrade process. My phone was connected and I got the screen that shows the current version and the version(s) to upgrade to (radio stack, etc). - It started the upgrade and my phone said "USB version 1.0" in big letters and then my my laptop did the USB disconnect sound and a message stating a USB device was not functioning. I tried a soft reset on the phone with the cable attached and it would not reset. I then unplugged the usb cable and slowly plugged it back in. My laptop then recognized a new USB device as mobile phone and I launched the installer again. It says the upgrade is a 3 stage process and can take 20 minutes. Right now it is at 71% of stage 1 for the radio stack. Fortunately I got a replacement XV6700 from Verizon yesterday for a minor issue so I am trying this on the original phone before attempting on the new.......radio stack completed after about 5-7 minutes and extended rom completed in about 20 seconds....now on stage 3 extended rom image update. Incidentally, your backlight on your phone is disabled during the upgrade and it is kind of hard to see that it is doing something. 3rd stage completed in about 3-4 minutes and now rebooting - ROM looks good 2.07!
If you don't want the Verizon customizations, remember to reset your device within 3 seconds after you calibrate the screen and to the riduculous cut paste operation for Windows Mobile 5 setup!
Panic averted. We figured out that connecting through the laptop port replicator USB terminated the installation. By disconnecting the laptop from the docking station and plugging the USB cable directly to the USB port on the laptop we were able to do the upgrade.
just did the update. i was wondering...can i use a spb backup file from before the update and sucessfully restore my device?
I've been wondering the same thing. I highly doubt it, the registry is likely going to be significantly different in this version. I would think you could probably restore your PIM data though.
No, you cannot do a restore using SPB Backup, because you will loose important registry settings that were undoubtedly added during the upgrade process.
I believe the new version of Sprite Backup 5.1, you can enable an upgrade ROM feature that takes a snap shot of your ROM before and after and reconciles them so you can perform a post ROM upgrade restore.
This is the route I am going to attempt this afternoon. . .
We had the same problem. Make sure you are not connecting your USB through ANY kind of USB hub, even a docking station or port replicator.
Thanks... It's funny I was going through the front ports on both my systems @ work and could not get it to recognize as USB - so then I tried the rear ports (right on the MB) still didn't work .... Dejected and depressed I figured I had nothing to lose by trying it @ home....
It works!!! - Only difference is the Motherboard manufacturer Asus = both systems @ work and Foxconn @ home...
either way - upgrading now
thanks again!

Reason: fixed spelling :-)
Is it me or did this ROM update not include the dreaded double space Date plugin on the today screen? I've got the single space original one and have the time on the taskbar just like the original ROM.
UPDATE: Verizon decided to not screw with the time/date/battery icon issue. They turned off the battery icon using a reghack. In AKU2.2, you can toggle it off and on by chaninging:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\ShowTitleBarClock to 0 for battery icon, 1 for time in taskbar.
Downloaded it and installed it without any trouble.
But "push mail" from a IMAP4 account is not working, still need to press the dreaded "receive/send" to get msg.
Does the "push mail" only works with Exchange 2003 server?
