Cannot Turn on Phone: Wireless Radio not attached

I wake up this morning to find the phone functionality is not working on my PPC6700. So, I notice one of the Data Code errors "#132" cannot sign on to network. So I turn on Flight Mode wait a minute or two then attempt to turn it off, the Wifi connection turns on. So I tap the Icon at the top to turn flight mode back off and then click settings. I get an error: "A wireless radio must be attached to use the phone."

So I hard reset. same problems. I go to Start-> Settings->Phone and get "A wireless radio must be attached to use the phone."

I open the Comm Manager and click on the Phone icon and nothing happens.

Anybody else have this problem and fix it?

I am on the new ROM from Sprint with everyone of the default cabs installed after the Hard Reset.

I just had this problem 2 weeks ago. The radio just totally dissapeared from the 6700. Even after 20+ hard resets, there would not even be a radio version on the start up screen. The version was displayed as "NONE". Just plain wierd. The rest of the PPC worked fine, just no radio at all. Took it to a Sprint Store and they declared it dead. The girl there gave me a refurb and said "Good thing you had the insurance". I then enlightened her be telling her that this has nothing to do with my insurance and was a warranty issue. I had to explain to her that I did not drop, break, throw, loose, or drown my phone. The malfunction of the CDMA radio inside the unit was a warranty issue. She still did not believe me, so I had to request her manager to come over so that she could be corrected on the issue. She then got very snippy with me after her manager explained that I was 100% correct. Can't Sprint hire some people with brains, or at least just some common sense. Worse part about the whole thing, the refurb has an audio issue with the headset jack (always sounds distorted). Here we go again. What a pain in the arse.

Yes. same here. I went to my local sprint store yesterday. I found out that they are now no longer a 'corporate store'. Just a reseller w/o tech support. Now the closest sprint corporate store is 70 miles away. My local store did get Adv Tech Support on the phone with sprint and I ended up talking to the girl who said it was dead and I needed a new phone. Well, my reseller would not swap it out. So I have to drive 70 miles today to get a new phone.

This is almost enough to make me switch to Verizon.

I had a frustrating experience trying to get my phone fixed as well. (Although different problem - screen alignment going out every day).

Was there a change in policy? They told me that if they had to replace/repair anythign that it would cost me (up to $55). I said, but it's under warranty and they told me that I'd have to send it to the manufacturer for that. This is totally different than what they used to do for me.

Anyway - after visiting the stores four different times when they told me a tech would be there but wasnt until the last time I went, they couldn't replicate the problem (it's random). They told me to come in when it's doing it (which I had tried already).

Called retention and told them I'm switching to another unless they fix this. He tried to tell me to make an appt with a tech.. but since this was a random problem.. that wouldn't work. Anyway, long story short he called the tech and got them to do a phone swap.

Sorry to hijack a little, for the phone not working, After all those resets I would definately bring it in. You are without phone service basically. If they make you pay - call Sprint and complain.

The "disappearing CDMA radio" issue is exactly what killed my "old logo" phone. It, too, showed as "NONE" at boot-up. I got a new phone by pre-arranging (with business rep) to buy a new phone, then get refund when returning the dead one. Sprint credited my bill. Happy ending thus far...

I believe i have done it! I have had one success with restoring a device from the error.

6700 wireless radio needs to be attached or error '120 invalid country code' during update
(I do not see why this wouldn't work using any other Sprint ROM Installer for this device.)

if your device displays 'wireless radio needs to be attached' or recieving error 120 invalid country code when trying to update the device firmware the following steps should resolve the issue. before begining make sure the you are using the correct update file the the Sprint PPC-6700. as of 12/09/06 the file name is APA_SPCS_20600_303_12700_WWE_Ship.exe. Downloadable from http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/d...0_WWE_Ship.exe or http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/...0_WWE_Ship.exe
(I do not see why this wouldn't work using any other Sprint ROM Installer)

1. you will need to connect the device and run the update utility.
2. once you are at the first update screen click on the desktop and press the F3 key (Search) and locate ruu.conf. you may need to select 'more advanced search' from the options and place a check in 'search hidden files and folders'.
3. open ruu.conf in a text editor and add the line '[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1' (without the quotes). close and save.
4. now continue with the update by selecting next. you should not receive the error 120 and the update should complete successfully.

Please post if you have also been successful with this process or i can be mailed or messaged at my y! id Lattisimo if you have any questions.

This same thing happened to me today but with a Treo 700Wx. Found this forum through Google. I haven't tried a hard reset or Latt's solution yet. I have not dropped, broken or damaged my Treo either. Everything works except for the phone. Wish me luck. I'll keep you updated.

Question

k0diak, you have an old logo phone... interesting. I think the old logo phone radios just die eventually. I had the same problem (see post earlier in this thread).

Did you try reinstalling the factory ROM? If so, did you see all three phases run, the first being "updating radio"? If yes to all that and no success with Lattisimo's method above, you might be out of options. Keep us posted.

Yes there has been a change in policy. If you don't have TEP the Sprint stores will only handle warranty issues for the first 30 days. After that you have to deal directly with the phone manufacturer. This is how they sell TEP.

Not that any XV6700 owner really cares, but the hard reset worked for my Treo 700Wx.

Good luck, K0diak.

My phone was giving me the same message too. The first time i tried to update it, i got error message 120... in the middle of the process of updating the radio. My phone then got stuck on bootlogger mode. Upon fixing that problem, i found out that my radio has somehow been disconnected. However, after all the info from this thread i was able to fix it by finishin the update. All's well that ends well.

the problem was that you talked to a RSA (retail sales associate) and not the technician

i work at a sprint store and i am a TSR and i like to think i have pretty good sense...but you dont go to best buy and ask the car installation people about washers and dryers

next time just ask for the technician on duty...it'll make the process a lot smoother

PPC-6700 Couldn't turn phone on

I could turn on the PC, but not the phone. The error message told me I had to connect to a wireless radio. I clicked Start, then Programs, then clicked "Clear Storage" The phone rebooted and was fine start>programs>clear-storage
