Officially... the 6700 is a piece

Now, I know that I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but while being able to watch Slingbox on the road appeals to me, there are far too many things wrong with the phone and how it relates to my service for me to not wonder how so many of you are still dealing with it.

I am on Sprint, in the Bay Area. Admittedly, my home is in a 1x area, while the freeway (101) is right around the corner and is EVDO.

My issues are simple. I bought a Phone. It happens to have a PDA built in, but it is a phone... So, without further ado, here are the list of things that anger me about the phone...

(1) Having to redial a phone number just to get the call to go through, since the first try automatically hangs up on me every time.
(2) Having the phone lock phone service out and tell me that it cannot dial out for some unknown reason.
(3) The dreaded "No modem found issue"
(4) Having to reload all software again after a reset, without activesync actually prompting me to restore any of it.
(5) Poor battery life, due to push email.
(6) Having the WiFi symbol come up on the phone as if it is trying to connect, even though WiFi is off.
(7) Having my calls go to Voicemail even though I am on the phone and not using data at the time.

As you can see, most of my issues deal with the 6700's functions as a phone. Most people tout the power of the 6700 as a PDA. I won't even get into usability of Windows Mobile vs Symbian, Treo, etc. because that is a choice I made. I just want to have a phone that works.

I recently spoke to advanced technical support at Sprint. They believe my issues are related to the 6700 being an EVDO unit and the fact that in my location, the signal switches between EV and 1x all the time. Whether that is true or not, the 6700 then becomes a $630 brick in my mind. Bells and whistles are good, but I thought most of us needed this thing for communication.

What you're describing doesn't sound normal. Have you tried turning off the EVDO radio? It sounds like that could be the problem. You should also try swapping your 6700 for a new one from the Sprint store.

First, because as he pointed out, there was a good possibility for him to get flamed and second, because all or most of his issues are covered in previous threads and I am not going to have one thread that covers multiple unrelated topics, it would just create a giant mess and throw off the search function (and eventually, I would have to go in and move the posts to the appropriate threads). The OP is certainly welcome to post in the pre-existing threads that cover these topics and if he can't find them after an honest effort to search, start a new thread with a single/dedicated subject but posts like these just don't do much good.

1. http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...highlight=dial

2. sounds like a hardware problem or 3rd party software conflict

3. http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...ht=modem+found

4. this is not a problem, this is how AS 4.x functions. the restore option was removed from 3.8

My advice would be to get your phone replaced. At some point, it would seem to me that it would become apparent that something is probably wrong with your phone and that you need to get it replaced instead of trying to fix issues yourself that you have no control over.
