Thumbs up Seidio's New (Silver) Extended Battery Cover Review

So I, like many people I'm sure, had some issues with the durability of extended battery covers.

Background:
My Seidio battery cover is about a month and a half old.. and is showing some major signs of wear. It is scratched up, and even worn away to white plastic underneith.

My Lion battery cover, while being only a few weeks old, looks like it is on its way to a similar situation. I do have a replacement on the way which I will buy some ClearCoat sealant to protect.

Meanwhile my PPC6700 is in mint condition, no scratches anywhere, the only signs of use are the extended battery covers. I use a holster all the time, and never set it any place that is remotely dirty.

On the bright side though, earlier this week Seidio sent me a new extended battery cover to try out, and I must say I'm impressed! This new cover has an almost glossy feel to it. Not too slick, but not rough either, just smooth. The semi-gloss finish allows it to blend in exactly with the silver finish of the 6700.

Other changes from the last Seidio battery cover include 4 little bumps at each corner of the battery cover. These allow you to set it down on even dust/slightly dirty surfaces without any risk of grains of dirt scratching it up.

This week I've set it down all over the place, and even put my 6700 in my jeans pocket (which is something I NEVER do with my 6700), and it has made it through the entire week without even a scratch. My old Seidio cover and my Lion cover had signs of wear after even a couple days.

I must say I am very happy! Thanks to Seidio, and especially David (one of 'em!) for getting this thing to me to try out. I love it!

I have gotten this cover to work with my extended Lion Battery as well, although its a very tight fit and I wouldn't guarantee it'll fit for everyone, but it is possible, which makes me happy.. since as I've said before I'm a power fiend and I enjoy having both my extended batteries!

Here's a pic of my old Seidio battery cover and my new one, you can see how beat up my old one got just from casual loose.

Hopefully our Seidio guys will chime in and let us know if this is already shipping with new orders or when it will be. I think a lot of people will be very pleased with it

A little competition never hurt anyone either. Will the competitors step up with a similar cover?

I ordered one of these as well but I haven't put it on yet. Guess I will. I also thought the 4 little knobs were a good idea. I'll let everyone know how it holds up.

The new cover came with my father's day package (the 55.01 dollar one.) Only gripe I have, and I'm sure it's due to how I hold the phone, but I tend to loosen the cover whenever I'm manipulating the phone around with one hand. Not a big deal at all- it doesn't happen every time. Honestly, until I read this thread, I had no idea a change had taken place.

Which Lion battery did you get it to fit with? the 2800 or something smaller?

The new 2800 one You almost have to force the cover on, but it fits.. and actually seems to fit tighter than it does with the Seidio battery once you get it on.

Would you say the fit is uncomfortably tight or good enough to use every day?

Good enough to use every day so far. I've been switching between my Seidio battery and Lion Battery with the new Seidio battery cover. The first time I put the Seidio cover over the Lion battery I was a little scared it was gonna break but then it just snapped right in.

(Keep in mind I'm just talking about the battery cover, not a case for the 6700. Just wasn't sure from your post )

So I have had the new cover on for a few days and I must say it is a lot better. than the original. Not a scratch on it. It doesn't get scratched in the docking station and the knobs keep the cover off any flat surface you might put it on. The only thing I would like to see different is that the little knobs would be made of rubber. I notice the knobs are getting worn.

Thats how mine broke. one of the lil tabs broke off while the cover popped off the phone.

Im not sure if it would be covered under a warranty or not. Be nice if it was, since it broke due to no fault of my own. But i dont care either way. If seido sees this and wants to remedy the situation, then cool. If not, then oh well... I might be moving on towards the Lion 2800mah battery anyways.

Seidio is currently shipping all the 2400 mah batteries with new version of battery door as the one in this review. Silver and Black one. It is a scratching-resistant type.

No theory about it at all. Your cover is warranted. To all who have covers they want to exchange: Please send an email directly to me with your original order number. As I receive it, I will pass it on to the order processing folks and they will ship them out as quickly as they come in.

Malatesta, I've had Seidio's extended battery for a few months, and the original cover had fit & finish issues from the get-go. Anyway, after a half dozen kind emails to and from David Silver @ Seidio, I received the new version. That said, I did ask David about purchasing an extra new version of the extended battery cover, and he said he'd look into it. So... hopefully Seidio will consider setting up an online ordering option for the new cover sometime soon.

Thanks again Seidio!

On a related note, I installed a clear plastic protective skin strait away on the new cover, just to make sure it stays scratch free and clean, lol...

Best to all,
R

Cheers David! I was sidetracked while typing my last post, lol, and just noticed your kind offer to warranty the old covers. Anyway, your excellent customer service is really appreciated! Thanks again!
