will I be charged by carrier for using my own dialup ISP on the 6700 for data access?
On my Verizon XV6700: Does a regular 10-digit call to a local dialup ISP (area code and 7-digit phone number) get picked up by Verizon as a data call? I'm signed up with the pay-as-you-go data plan and don't intend to use the Verizon network for DUN (by dialing #777). If I place a call to my ISP using its phone number, does this still fall onto the data side of things? Or is it just counted toward regular voice call minutes? I'd like to ask around before trying it on my own. Thanks.
I don't know about Verizon - but for Sprinters who are thinking of doing this the charge will be 39 cents a minute plus it will use minutes. - sheureka
I didn't think that you could dial up to an isp since the 6700 doesn't actually have an analog modem. It's the same reason that you can't fax directly from the 6700.

I am sorry if htis has been asked, I cannot find an answer on search or google.
Am I charged data charges if I connect to the internet using IE on the phone itself using my current home isp dial up number.
Basically I set up an internet connection on my phones browser that dials into my ISP, rather than verizons preset number.
I do not mean using the phone as a modem with a laptop, I mean utilizing the browser on the phone. I am guessing that I will only be charged voice minutes for this.

When I first got my xv6700(vw)I was told I had to have data. Then I called again and they said I could use my dial up and only be charged minutes, so I changed my plan to have more minutes. WRONG...my data useage was climbing very high and I called again and was told that I am only using data, not minutes and I needed to switch to unlimited data. They did credit me for the data I used originally...so the answer is DATA not minutes.

Thanks. Well, that's what I was afraid of. I could've sworn when I used my old LG VX3200 (plain vanilla cellphone) either hooked to my PDA or my laptop and dialed my ISP, I wasn't charged for data usage. But then I didn't use it much.
How much data use were you using the dialup to your ISP for? Maybe there's a "threshold" of data bytes; if you go over a certain number of kbytes, the charges start racking up?

In all likelihood you were able to do just that with your old phone. However, most recent CDMA phones do not have the ability to emulate an analog modem. I can confirm that it is certainly not possible with the 6700.
