Anyone know of a way to hide personal contacts in the phone book??

Anyone know of a way to hide personal contacts in the phone book. The contacts in question are marked as private in Outlook, but are visable. Would locking the phone do this?

Just a suggestion... If I needed to hide a contact, which I don't, I would assign an alias name to the phone number. Like Acme Pest Control. Or whatever. Hiding in plain sight is always the best solution.

I don't know of any programmable way to mask a contact name within the Contact list. And, as you said, locking the phone to a password will definitely keep everything private.

How to do it:

You can assign a Category to each Contact.
Then when viewing your contact listing, View by the category.

1) Click on a Contact, Edit, scroll down to Categories
By default there are: Business, Holiday, Personal, Seasonal.

2) Select one of these or create a new one.

3) Do this for all of your contacts.

4) Now go back to the Contact List. Click on Menu>>Filter>>%category%

Now only those contacts in that category will be visible.

Another way is to leave most of your contacts as "No Category" and just assign the personal ones to the Personal category. Then set the contacts view Filter to No Categories or Personal, whichever you want to view at the time.

Also.... you can open up Outlook on your Computer and view that contact... there is a checkbox to mark it as "Private" on the bottom right of the screen, next to the category

Acme Pest Control, that is a good one. I might just try it! I was just wondering b/c with PALM it was easy to set up and nothing was displayed except when someone called. It would come up as Secret. I have set all private contacts in Outlook. We'll see. Thanks
