You shouldn't need USB drivers to get activesync to work.

Be sure you're using version 4.1, or the new 4.2 beta.

Yeah I am using 4.1... Windows tells me my phone is a unrecognized device and even stops it from charging. Do I need to use the cradle to sync? I am only using the USB cable and not the cradle (which I dont have with me).

just the cable should be fine...that's how I do mine.

Maybe try rebooting both PC and phone, then on the phone make sure activesync is running... you can get to it from the programs sections...

Plug the phone directly into the PC. I had issue when I hooked it up via a USB hub. Try changing the port too. The drivers should be installed auto when you plug in the phone. The actual drivers are in C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers or wherever you installed it.

what version of windows are you using? Mine wouldn't work with winblows 2000, only with XP.

My god, it was an operation to get outlook to recognize my 6700. I installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, so many times. Ditto for my laptop.

my guess is that the problem isn't the phone but ActiveSync. bleh.

There are some drivers in C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers, but none "match the device I am trying to install"...

Shoot. Windows XP is the OS.

The phone brand new? Have you installed any 3rd party software? Seriously affects the ActiveSync capabilities... You install 1 app it doesn't like, and kiss your synching days goodbye. Hard reset will fix it...

USB 2.0 cable required. I was using a retractable 1.1 cable...

2.0 cable worked (no USB drivers needed)

turn the phone off with the button on the top of the phone and then plug it in, mine works every time since I have started doing that.

I HATE USB. It is terrible. Finicky ports. Problems with unplugging and replugging things back in. I have also had problems with unplugging something and the putting it into a different port and it not working. It is not just the phone that is the problem, I think it is USB.
