Questions from someone about to make a purchase...

First off, I will be doing lots of reading on this site for the next several weeks probably. There's so much to take in that there's no way I can get it all in today.... My situation is this...

I'm currently using a PPC 6600. My contract with Sprint has up for a few months now. I have a shared plan with my wife, 2 lines total. We both want new phones. I've been planning on getting the 6700 for a while now. I was waiting for Sprint to release the Treo 700 so I could get that for my wife at the same time. That way we could negotiate a new plan with retention at the same time we both switch over to EVDO.

The problem is, now it looks like Sprint will be releasing the Palm version of the Treo, and not the Windows version (at least not for several months). So we don't want the Palm version, and we can't wait any longer. I'm going to run to the Sprint store after work, pay full price for 2 6700's, and then go home and call retention and see what kind of deal they want to give me on the new plan for both of them.

Anyway, my questions are:

1: Would it be possible to exchange my wife's 6700 for the Windows Treo when it comes out? Even for an extra fee?
2: Is it possible to dial using your voice with a bluetooth headset?
3: What's a good headset for my wife? Preferably something she can dial with, and possibly even have caller id and volume control, etc (I have my own bluetooth stereo headset already- iTech Clip S35).
4: What case would you suggest for the wife and me? I've been using a Krusell 89179 Dynamic Leather Case with my PPC-6600. Is there anything like that for the 6700?
5: How do you know if it has the latest ROM update installed yet?
6: Is there a backup software similar to the Sprite backup that I use with the 6600? I would prefer to go thru all the hacks and stuff on my unit, create a backup file, and then restore it to hers so I don't have to do it all twice.
7: Where's the best deal on 2 GB Mini SD cards?
8: Anything else you would suggest?

I realize a lot of this stuff has probably been covered on this site already, and I'll be reading thru trying to find all of it out. But I figured this phone has been out long enough where a lot of the info is probably outdated anyway, so while I sort it out maybe someone can come by and answer some of these questions for me with current info. That way all this info will be together in the same thread for the next n00b that does a search. Thanks in advance for any help...

Why are you going to go to the store and pay full price? Call retention NOW and get a deal on the phones and the plans.

Hi Salty Dawg,

Good to see you are making the switch to the 6700. A lot of your questions are easily answered by the search function. Here is what to search for (do title only searces) as well as some quick answers:

1. That is up to Sprint. 14 day return policy and past that, it is at their discretion but they probably won't accept it back after that. sell it on ebay and use the money towards a 700W when it becomes available.

2. yes, new ROM 6700s have a voice dialing software builtin

3. this is obviously personal preference so only your wife can answer it. there seems like a billion different ones people use. we have a large thread on this subject entitled "best bluetooth headset" http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...etooth+headset

4. "Cases" http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ighlight=cases You may also wish to do a regular search in this forum for Krusell. Googling for "Krusell 6700," I found this: http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wire...roductid=21274

5. lots of different ways. easy one is if you see a blue Windows Mobile splash screen for a couple of seconds when booting up the phone (after the iniital Sprint screen), you have the new ROM. Or you can just pull up the "device information" screen from the phone dialer "menu" and view the ROM version.

6. yes, see Sprite's website. other options include Sunnysoft or SBP Backup

7. try ebay or search for it on pricegrabber.com . the deals are constantly changing so any information someone provides on this board will be outdated shortly.

Generally, threads of these types are discouraged because they cover so many unrelated topics that when people search, it screws up their results. Because of this and the fact that many of your questions have been covered in the past, I am going to go ahead and close this thread. Hope that is ok with you.
