change "Contacts" soft key on Phone (not Today) screen to launch Photo Contacts Pro??

thanks to all the people on this website, you have helped immensly.

I have both Pocket Informant and Photo Contacts. I use pocket informant for the calander and I like to use Photo Contacts for my contacts, pictures, ringer usage. I have tweaked my registry so that when pressing the softkey "contacts" on my Today screen Photo Contacts starts up instead of Pocket Informant. So that part is working great.

The problem is when using the phone, there is also "contact" button/softkey on the left hand side (On the today screen "contact" is on the right side). When pressing "contact" in the phone menu, Pocket Informant contacts screen starts up. This is annoying, and I want to know how to change this particular softkey in the phone screen to start up Photo Contacts.

Also when talking on the phone or when a call ends there is also a "Contacts" button .. not soft key... Again this is linked to Pocket Informant, and I would like to change this to Photo Contacts also.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

you have to go edit the registry to point to what program it should open up when you hit that soft key... here are the instructions for ya

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\today\113\

i can't remember if i had to make that 113 folder or not, if it's not there make one named "113" and add two REG_SZ values one named "Default" and the value would be "Contacts" <-- thats the name that will show up on the soft key...i guess you can change it if you want. next create a value called "Open" and the value for that is the path to your photocontacts pro. from there do a soft reset and it should work, at least mine does

Drop the .cpl file from this zip in your windows folder and do a soft reset. In the control panel you'll now have an easy wasy to set those soft keys without messing with the registry.

you guys have been helpful, but this still does not solve my problem.

I have manually tweaked the '113' registry so that when pressing Contacts on the TODAY screen Photo Contacts starts, which is what I want. The .cpl file posted in this thread, does this exact same thing also, it tweaks the registry for you.

What I need is to learn how to change the 'Contacts' Softkey and button on the PHONE screen, not the Today Screen. When pressing the Contacts on the PHONE screen, Pocket Informant Contacts launches which is not what I want. I want the Photo Contacts to launch...

I hope this is not to confusing. can anyone help?

thanks
