Is there a need for a backup system with WM5/6700??

Hi Everyone,
This seems like a noob question to ask...but I can't figure out...do you actually need a backup system when you are running WM5. I have an i730 with 2003 right now but am upgrading through the V710 thing.

I can't figure out if you need a backup system why one wasn't included in the software like the i730. I know Sprite wasn't ready yet but still....

Also, since I have Sprite on my i730 does that count as me being a prior purchaser of the software to get the upgrade price...

Mods please feel free to move my post if it belongs somewhere else. Thanks, Jen

Well it might be handy to have a 3rd party backup program, but WM5 devices do not lose data when the battery is removed.. Older PDAs did not have persistant memory.

I think a backup util is a good idea. I think I might purchase the SPB Backup utility that just came out. I have already had to hard reset my 6700 once and it took a long time to reload everything. But only because I mess around with 3rd party apps and the registry. But if you don't do those things that much, a backup isn't totally necessary. My two cents.

Having a backup is ALWAYS a good idea, I think. I have had dozens of devices and have done countless restores over the years. NEVER have I done a restore because the battery went dead. That are multitudes of other issues that can facilitate the need for a backup/restore.

When I get a new device I usually play around with different software, installing and uninstalling till I decide what I want to use. I then do a hard reset to clear out the junk and reinstall the apps that I have decided to use on it. I then do a backup and keep it. If ever I run into a problem where I need to hard rest to fix a problem I can always go back to that "clean" backup and not have to reinstall all my core applications. From that point on I do regular backups to keep recent data.
