Treo 700 Missed Call Notification Bubble (See Screenshots) - possible on 6700??
I have both the Treo 700W and XV6700. The Treo seems to have a more robust Missed Call Notification Bubble that displays actual caller and in softkey options, it allows you to add to contact. Is this a Palm Exclusive custimization and/or MS WM 5 OEM option that Palm decided to use? Is there ba way to activate this option in the registry. Click each thumbnail below for screenshots.

I have noticed myself that the VZW missed call feature is severely lacking. Basically you tap the bubble and you get "x missed call(s)" and no info about who or when. Then you click the "view" softkey and it shows your recent missed calls. Entirely unneccessary if you ask me. The popup you get when you click the bubble in the status bar should tell you at the very least your most recent missed call. As far as the answer to your question goes, my money is on the fact that it's a Palm customization just like what they've done with the today screen (picture speed dial and google search). Despite this, I still don't regret my purchase of the XV6700.
At the XDA-Developers site they managed to get the today screen speed dialer and the web search, mabye they can work this ou too
Thanks
Problem is, most XDA Guys are hackers and they would probably need the Treo 700W to work out the issues. I think this is a custom job implemented by Palm from available Windows APIs. With the new WM 5 State and Notification Broker API, it would be quite simple for the OEM or a developer to customize. Will look into it further.
Perhaps you should explain a little better what Phone Alarm does. Phone Alarm does not accomplish what the first post is asking for (better default missed call notification). What it does is show is a missed calls icon in the plug-in, which when tapped, loads call history, but with the Missed Call Filter applied. It doesn't alter the default missed call notification. In fact, this notification will still pop up, and with the same options and operation. PA just has its own notification--a bell that you can click to dismiss or snooze, along with the missed call icon that tells the number missed, and loads the Missed call history when tapped. Now, I just started using PA, so if I'm wrong about this, chime in, but I believe I've played with all the settings and I don't see where this plug-in in any way alters the default missed call on-screen notification, or provides any more information then the default. Its useful only in that it will load the missed call history, which is still an improvement
I'd like to see the Treo features hacked as well, so that I can see more information from the start, when I first look at the device, before tapping any buttons. How do i know if i want to dismiss the notification if i don't even know who's called me? I'd be willing to drop a donation for someone to figure this out :-p

I concur, you've spelled it out load and clear. As soon as I get a chance, I want to investigate this further. Because a lot of the WM 5 Phone features were replaced by Palm in there UI implementation.
A lot of the apps out there that "override" default WM 5.0 don't really "override", only cover them up. Take Photo Contacts as an example: the default caller ID screen still pops up on an incoming call, but the larger Photo Contacts screen then comes up over top of it. It seems that the Treo 700 features are actually more then just add-ons, but rather replacements--another reason why I'm interested in seeing them hacked. They are much better then the standard, and on the Treo, take the place of the standard. I would investigate further, but software isn't my thing--I'd probably spend way too much time just learning the interface before I could even attempt to figure out the hack...LOL.
To answer the first post, there's no Treo 700 hacks beyond the speed dial and search bar just yet. I have seen other progs that will provide more information, but these are applications, not really reg changes or anything to REPLACE or make better the standard notifications. If you search for some other apps that you like, do post here. I've seen a few, but none that I liked...
Here's what I know so far. Just reactivated my Treo 700w, which was deactivated because it was useless with Wireless Sync issues or lack there of.
Palm has implemented a custom today Softkey/Action Button interface. It overrides the WM 5 Softkeys. Therefore, I dought if any current registry hacks available for other HTC devices will work on this one. It seems that when this feature is deactivated, all other features such as missed calls and even the green button stop functioning. The green button may be tied into the same custom app or mnay be a different one. Will use the process of elemination to isolate each one. Hopefully there is a registry key for WM 5 allowing for and pointing to custom app for missed calls and other phone features.

Looking at some of the processes, I am assuming that Palutils.dll may be one or the main of the dependency that may be responsible for WM 5 enhancements in the Treo, this may be able to be ported or duplicated.
