Here Are The Files To Get Google Local/maps Working On Your 6700

Hey everyone; I'm planning on getting a 6700, but I was just wondering: can you use google maps on it? I've searched, but haven't seen anything that mentions it. I guess PIE has issues with Java? Does that mean it won't work? People seem to think Opera is good, and I guess it has Java support... So, with the right browser though... Has anyone gotten it to work? Thanks,
-Taylor

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!
Try doing another search using the actual Google Loccal name!
It can be done... There are a million reasons to own the 6700.. the LEAST of which is its interoperability with google!

Here Are The Files To Get Google Local/maps Working On Your 6700

I posted previously on the "google local enjoy" thread; but, I think this problem deserves a new thread.

It appears ever since google local went google map it no longer works on the ppc6700.

You can change your browser registry settings and get two different versions to download..
1. high-end phone
2. mainstream phone

Both appear to install, but neither seem to load.

Has anyone with a ppc6700 had luck getting the new google maps to work? Does the old google local still work on those who have had it installed previously? If so, is it possible to copy from those phones the need installation files / settings to get it work on other phones?

Any help will be appreciated.. google local kicked azz. Windows and others just can't touch it.

Here are the ones I was able to download. But remember, i could install them but they did not bring up the map.. just the window application for the map.

If these do not seem to work, try changing your pie settings in the registry. You will be able to reach the download from google then.

Please post your results. Thanks

I was able to pull the gmaps-Audiovox-SMT5600_en.jad file from google faking the user agent reply...

You can save the below text as audiovox.jad or whatever and copy it to the phone and run it from there. The application installs and everything looks like works except mine is hanging where it asks if google can use onair minutes to transfer data... I'll keep looking at it.

Might be that the new ver doesnt get along with the IBM VM (I have 5.7 so I can view sat images). Will try 6.0 see if that works.

I got past that I think, to the point where it asks if you want to use air time...

Dont change the ServerAddress that is the correct link, remember that was the ACTUAL JAD file from google. I think the problem is that the new ver of the java applet doesnt work well with the IBM virtual machine. Tried ver 6.1 but that didnt work either...

I'll play with with it some more later... there are a bunch of different IBM VMs to try still

Hey got it working!!!

The problem was that I didnt copy the LIB folder for 6.1 IBM VM.

Eveyrthing works now...

Here is what you need...

1) go get the 6.1 VM from IBM @ http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp...eme&S_PKG=dl61
Trial: WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment ver 6.1 is what you want.

Look for file name ibm-weme-wm50-sp-arm-midp20-6.1.0-20060321-073117-918.exe (the first part anyway, I think it might have inserted data and time into the filename automatically)

2) install in your PC, the go to the folder: C:\Program Files\IBM\WEME\runtimes\61\wm50-sp-arm-midp20

3) copy the BIN and LIB folders to your storage card (about 3 megs)

4) run the emulator inside the BIN and install the JAD file (I suggest putting it in the / folder so its easy to find and renaming it 1.jad so its easy to type in the installer window).

5) Thats it! this is MUCH nicer and faster and satellite view works perfectly so ver 6.1 is all we needed.

Here Are The Files To Get Google Local/maps Working On Your 6700

Getting those IBM files is a pain.
Getting the new JAD file requires changing the USER AGENT on the PIE.

So here are all the files required so you dont have to go hunting

1) Expand and put both the BIN and LIB folders somewhere in your device. I have them both inside \Storage Card\Program Files\J9\MIDP20 But I dont think it matters where you put them as long as they are both there in the same folder.

2) rename 1.jad.txt to 1.jad and put it in the root folder " / "

3) run the emulator inside the BIN folder, then select install and put 1.jad in the source (and of course / as the path).

4) thats it! enjoy.
Attached Files
File Type: zip lib.zip (452.8 KB, 4023 views)
File Type: zip bin.zip (629.2 KB, 6190 views)
File Type: txt 1.jad.txt (757 Bytes, 4817 views)

I keep getting an error "The Google Maps Midlet failed to launch"

Any suggestions?

Will a pie hack affect this? If so, which way should pie be facing?

Are you using the bin and lib folders I attached?

PIE doesnt have anything to do with it.

make sure the JAD file doesnt have any empty lines or anything like that... use the one I attached to be sure.
