Windows Live Search Beta for Mobile

Ok, just saw this on mobilecrunch, here's the direct link to the Windows Live:
http://ideas.live.com/programpage.as...a-22a5c2282bfd

The cab file is just 347k, and as far as I can tell (which isn't saying much since I just installed it), but it does everything that Google Maps for Mobile or Map4PDA, but much smaller footprint.

It's not GPS enabled though - sheureka

After installing google mail and google maps, is there a way to directly launch the applications aside from opening up the midlet and selecting launch?

This program is awesome. Thanks for the info. Why bother with all that other crap when this does exactly what i want and took not even 5 min to download and setup.

Yes, you need to create a shortcut icon and have it point to the following (this will work in Total Commander ONLY):

\Storage Card\Program Files\J9\MIDP20\bin\emulator.exe" "-Xdescriptor:\gmaps.jad" "-Xjam:run=1

If you are using some other file explorer, I do not know the proper syntax, but you may need a " at the beginning and at the end.

This assumes the Java runtime at
\Storage Card\Program Files\J9\MIDP20\bin\emulator.exe

This assumes the gmaps.jad file is at
\gmaps.jad

Hope this helps a little. I don't know much else, as I set this up a long time ago and haven't tinkered with it since.

Also, I think if you want to do another program, you change -Xjam:run=2, but I am somewhat guessing on this too.

Awesome thread!

I hate the fact that it takes registration at IBM and digging down to get the right download (CLDC 1.1/MIDP 2.0 for Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition/ARM). My MiniSD card slot on my phone is messed up, so I ended up placing mine on directly on the phone's memory. If anyone is interested, email me and I'll be happy to send them the bin & lib folders directly.

To get around having to use any 3rd party apps for a shortcut, I basically took the PMH Regedit icon, throwing it in notepad on my laptop, modifying the path to run the .jad (38#"\Program Files\J9\MIDP20\BIN\EMULATOR.EXE" -Xjam:run=1), and placing it back on the phone under Windows\Start Menu Programs.
