This is really cool, but when using the "directions" feature it requires you to enter numbers to navigate to the next waypoint. (3) It's really not convenient to pull the stylus out, tap on the keyboard, and then tap a number - nor is it great to have to flip the slider open, press the red key, and then the number 3.
I'm NOT running the smartphone version of the IBM VM, but before I try that I thought I'd check and see if using that VM will make this any easier or not.
Has anyone experienced a problem where typing numbers into the application doesn't work. I'm talking about when you are looking at a map after a search and there are numbered points on the map. You are supposed to be able to type the number to move to each point. This also happens with directions, I can't jump to the waypoints using the numbers.
Hi, I have the T-mobile MDA with the internet plan (data plan), I installed the files that you posted, and put the 1.jad file in several locations (main root, storage card root, next to the bin folder and also inside the bin folder, but didn't work I got the message "The URL "1.jad" does not appear to be a valid URL". I'm new on this j2me java thing, can you please help me on this?

make sure you have a live data connection (open up PIE and go to a webpage).
I don't think the emulator will make one for you, in turn it looks like an error to the program since it can't find ther internet.
I am having a problem with the 1.jad file. I rename it on my desktop, then move it over to /. However, when i look at the properties on my 6700 for 1.jad it says the name is 1.jad.txt. I run the emulator and get an error when I point to the file. When I point it to 1.jad.txt it sees it and starts the install, but gives me the error "unable to read the jar file from location... Please check the MIDlet-Jar-URL.
I'm also having the problem with the 1.jad file. In my case, I have resco 2005 and have MADE SURE that it is indeed named 1.jad and not something else like 1.jad.txt.
It looks to me like it simply is unable to find the 1.jad file.
Here is what I did:
1. I have a BIN folder and a LIB folder located here: \storage card\\Program Files\J9\MIDP20
2. I have 1.jad in the midp20 folder. (I also have it in the J9 folder).
3. When I goto run the emulator, I select install and put "/1.jad" (no quotes) in the source and get the same error the other guys here appear to be getting.
I know I've got everything else setup right. If I put http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.2....-120-m2_en.jar in for the source, some does indeed come up, but it never gets passed the 'loading terms and conditons' part. I'm assuming I need all those other settings in that 1.jar file to get this suker to fly.
So, my question is this ... for those of you that have got this darn thing to work, where, excatly, did you put the files, and what, exactly, did you type in for the source location?
THANK you hec!! - putting the 1.jad in the root of the whole device was indeed my issue. OMG I feel like such a dope - I shoulda figured that one out myself...(smokin too much dope I guess..hehehe..*cough*)
Now I didn't try your neat little shortcut (I've created it, but not clicked on it yet). I'm curious about the paramater though, what does that mean, and what does it do? I *assume* the run=1 means to run the 1.jad one? Does it try to do the install again, or does it just run the google thingy? (which is WAY cool by the way)
TechnoHippie, sorry for the late reply, but yes (as you've probably figured out already), the -Xjam:run=1 paramter will cause the shortcut to automatically run Google Maps, saving you the step of having to select it among your installed apps. I presume you have to already have it installed, though, but I'm not sure, since I had already installed it when using the shortcut for the first time.
Anyway, I agree that this is a cool app, but I tend to favor Virtual Earth Mobile.
In my case, I used Resco File Explorer to create the shortcut pointing to the emulator.exe file. I then did a tap-n-hold on the shortcut to bring up a pop-up menu and selected Properties. I went to the Shortcut tab and added the paramter after the quote symbol at the end of the line (with a space between the quote and the dash).
