I followed Pc6700lover's instructions and everything loaded perfectly the first time. This software is Amazing ! Thanks for the great post Pc6700Lover.
Same with me. I unzipped bin and lib files and put them in '/Storage Card/Program Files/Java'. Then I put the 1.jad file in the root of my storage card. I started the emulator program under the bin folder and installed from '/Storage Card/1.jad'. Said yes to everything and it's working great.
The only thing I can't seem to do it is get it to do directions. It asks the starting point and destination but then doesn't do anything.
I believe the 1.jar file was suppose to be moved the root of mydevice, not the storage card. I put the Bin and Lib folders on the storage card and the 1.jar file on the root of mydevice and it worked right away. Try that change.
Well, it installed fine from the Storage Card. I can put in my house address and work address and it pops up and I can use the D-pad to scroll around. Very cool.
The only thing not working is Getting Directions.

I did it this way, installed perfectly, and I am getting starting point - destination directions as well. thx for the posts!
Thanks to all for putting out the much needed info.
After reading that users were running this from the card I was delighted. However I got freezes and error messages by the 2nd day. I had all files in the recommended directories on the card.
After deleting everything and running from the recommended internal directories all is well.
Anyone experiencing smooth operation from the card for more than 1 day or a dozen searches?
I just got Google working -- Thanks for all the great posts.
I am wondering if others are seeing
Menu > pop up has 1 through 6 showing but at least 2 more selections hidden by the lower menu bar.
I also must use the rocker button in the center to move the bar up and down in the above menu and if I use the OK key - the app just goes blank- if I push down on the rocker button then the the menu selection seems to work.

All seems to work for me after I downgraded to the 1.19 release. The menus and searches now work as expecpted. I do need the GPS however so hope they get it fixed.
Check out MSN earth. I would like to see more International maps with GPS that would be cool the next time I go one of my round the world jaunts.
...
Getting the new JAD file requires changing the USER AGENT on the PIE.
PC6700lover, great job worked flawless.
SOOOOO... being greedy as I am, this java emulator seems like it could run other Java applications, I'm betting.
One in particular I am after is a java-based speed test applet. So, can you post some procedure that would let us download a java applet of choice and manage it through this emulator? Something to do with a user agent on PIE, from your post.

Nice Avatar!

Getting those IBM files is a pain.

So here are all the files required so you dont have to go hunting
1) Expand and put both the BIN and LIB folders somewhere in your device. I have them both inside \Storage Card\Program Files\J9\MIDP20 But I dont think it matters where you put them as long as they are both there in the same folder.
2) rename 1.jad.txt to 1.jad and put it in the root folder " / "
3) run the emulator inside the BIN folder, then select install and put 1.jad in the source (and of course / as the path).
4) thats it! enjoy.
So these are the google maps files? Also how do you get the J9 and the MIDP20 folders? Is there a separate program that creates that or should I manually create these folders?
Also I cannot change the name of the 1.jad.txt file to 1.jad. When I go to change it- it is already named that.
When I try to run the emulator and put either 1.jad or even 1.jar it says: "The URL '1.jar'(or 1.jad whatever i put in) does not appear to be a valid URL."

Any just to get google local for directory searches only with ability to call from the phone number linked dispalyed only as opposed to doing all this other stuff for the maps?

You do not have to create the J9 and MIDP20 folders, nor do the BIN and LIB folders have to be in them. All that matters is that the BIN and LIB folders are in the same folder.
If you are having problems renaming 1.jad.txt to 1.jad, it is probably because your computer is hiding the .txt extension. To change this, open Explorer on your PC and click Tools -> Folder Options, select the 'View' tab, and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

FYI for those who haven't figured it out, the unseen options are (7) Help and ( Quit

I copied this over from my post on ppc6700users.
Im not sure what you've done so far. So here is the info for any readers. Sorry if its already been stated.
1) On your root directory on the ppc create a folder called J9
2) In that folder create a folder called MIDP20
3) place the bin and lib folders in the midp20 folder
4) place the google jad in your my documents folder
5) tap the emulator in the bin folder
6) It will ask you to install a midlet, the directory is as follows file:\\\My Documents/1.jad
I finally got google maps working but when I closed the application down, i can't seem to find how to restart it. Can anyone push me in the right direction to launch google maps again?
Well you could use your file explore to go to the J9 folder, MIDP20 folder then tap the emulator.
What I do is create a folder with Total Commander in the start menu called jim then go to the emulator and with it highlighted in totalcommander i go file>(A)>create Shortcut. And I place the shortcut in the jim folder.
