I unzipped both the bin and lib and placed onto my storage card (now it's located in root / after having problems)
I copied your 1.jad.txt to root / and renamed it to 1.jad.
Once opening the emulator.. i enter 1.jad in the url with path selected as /
/1.jad
I hit ok.. and a warning comes up. About to install MIDlet "google maps" version "1.2.0" ("304424 bytes) from vendor "Google". Proceed?
I hit yes.
Installing a midlet from /1.jar and complets. A new warning pops up.
This MIDlet suite did not come from a trusted location. Are you sure that you would like to install it? I hit yes.
Installing something... goes really fast so I can't read it.
Successfully Installed "Google Maps" MIDlet. Would you like to launch "Google Maps" MIDlet? I hit yes.
A google maps 1.2.0 with an icon pops up.. then the error
The Google Maps MIDlet failed to launch.
Does my previous version of IBM that I used for the previous google need to be uninstalled or left installed?
In your previous post of the .jad, do I need to download that .jar and place in my root / ?
There is an alternative that exists that maps just as well as google. I don't know all of the features of GMaps since I haven't tried it but viavirtualearth is much more user friendly to install. No JVM requirement and such.
The map quality, at least in my area, is horrible on virtual earth. The driving directions blow. The only thing that it has, which I've never used outside of the first day, was the 'find me' feature - which finds you either by GPS or through a Wifi connection (which just gives your general area).
I think google maps driving directions are the best of anything else I have tried. including Streets and Trips and TOM TOM. I dont know why but they always have the BEST routes (shortest distance, taking the best highways, etc.) This is for NYC / NJ. Never tried it anywhere else.
Can a shortcut be created for the emulator which contains the application to launch on start so that google is launched when the emeulator shortcut is selected?

According to a tread in in the newsgroups that should work (put into a file called maps.lnk or something)... I'm getting an error message that says "j9midp20" cannot be opened. Either its not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components its missing, etc.
If you are going to try it, replace the path to the .exe and the .jar file with your own path. wonder if it works for other people...
I had the wrong path, now it executes but it does nothing... probably needs different parameters than what that shortcut is passing it... gonna have to actually read the 6.1 docs
Is this the runtime file from that package? "weme-wm50-arm-midp20_6.1.0.20060317-11142.zip" That's the one I installed.

The satellite view does not work for me. I get the message "This phone won't display satellite images (JPEGs)." when I select that option.
Other complaints: It still has a WM2003 looking menu bar, the softkeys don't work (have to use the touchscreen for those), and I have to use the keyboard to select 0-9 from the menu because the touchscreen doesn't work for that.
It looks nice, but it's got some big usability or compatibility problems right now.

Argg. I copied the files over to the storage card /bin /lib and the jar file and renamed it.
I goto the /bin directory and run the "emulator". It says "please wait" then does nothing and back to the file explorer.
Any ideas ?
Thanks.
You might try to copy the bin and lib folders and the .jar file to your root and trying again to eliminate any possibile problems with the storage card / memory.
Getting those IBM files is a pain.
Getting the new JAD file requires changing the USER AGENT on the PIE.
So here are all the files required so you dont have to go hunting
1) Expand and put both the BIN and LIB folders somewhere in your device. I have them both inside \Storage Card\Program Files\J9\MIDP20 But I dont think it matters where you put them as long as they are both there in the same folder.
2) rename 1.jad.txt to 1.jad and put it in the root folder " / "
3) run the emulator inside the BIN folder, then select install and put 1.jad in the source (and of course / as the path).
I have this working on my unit. As opposed to the post above, I can hit the right softkey and select a menu item with the D Pad scroll/click. One issue is that the fonts looks too big. ANyone have any idea on how to change the font/font size.

OK, good someones having the same problem I'm having. The fonts on mine are to big as well. When I hit the right softkey, the last 2 options, help and exit are covered by the bottom task bar. Also when selecting a point on the map in driving directions, the fonts look tooo big, and some of the options don't show up, IE move to next point by hitting 3. When version 5.7 of j2me was working, the fonts looked much nicer, but it was much slower, and would crash a lot. Is everyone noticing this with version 6.1? I thought maybe I updated wrong or something.
