Is there a way to play midi files as ring tones? I just switched from the t650 and am really missing my midi ringtones, and the volume is SO low too .

No success with MIDI here.. Although you can make MP3s louder with a little file editing with something like audacity.sourceforge.net

There are two ways to do this.

1) Copy the MIDI to anywhere on the 6700. Then, press select the menu over the file under File Explorer. "Set as Ringtone" should be one of the options.

2) Copy the MIDI directly into the Windows/Rings folder. This will also install the MIDI as a ringer.

Generally, you ought to truncate the MIDI file to around 15-20 seconds so it is not too long.

None of my MIDI files will play, I suspect it is because they are too long.. What program do you use to truncate them to 15-20s?

Mine play just fine. Not sure how long they are, but they play.

Personally, I use Cakewalk SONAR 5 Producer Edition, but that's $400 professional software :-p

I am pretty sure this freeware will do the job though.
Anvil Studio

I've never used it, but you ought to be able to open up .mid files and delete the parts you don't want.

Is yours a Verizon phone? By any chance, did you do the hard reset--soft reset hack to bypass Verizon's customizations (details on other threads here)? If you did, you need to run a cab file that's hidden in the 6700's extended rom. It's called something like "enable_ringtone.cab". All you have to do is open it (which installs its contents), and MIDI files now are playable, even as ringtones. Even Windows Media Player will play MIDIs after running that cab.

I too was missing the ability to play MIDIs, but after finding the ringtone cab, I was back in business.

I guess even if you didn't do the hard/soft reset hack, try looking in your extended ROM for this cab. Hope this helps.
