external battery pack will not charge low phone battery

I have purchased an external battery pack that extends use for 7 or 8 hours.

One problem I am experiencing is most of the time when the phones battery is low the phone will not charge from the external battery pack. Anyone else experience this problem?

Thanks

Rick

Most of the units that I've looked at aren't designed to charge the battery when it's very low. (Which is why I haven't picked one up yet.) It's probably a current issue, you need 5v and roughly a few hundred miliamps to charge the battery.

I have a Socket Mobile PowerPak - http://www.socketcom.com/product/power.asp - and it will not only charge my phone but also my iPod, GPS receiver, and BT headset. Saved my life when United lost my luggage (and my wheelchair!) at Christmas. I kept my phone alive for about 3 days - sheureka

Will powerpak charge the phone (or gps) when their batteries are close to dead? Charging an ipod is no longer an issue for me since I got my 2gb card.

I'm not sure how low my batteries have gotten - but I wasn't able to plug in either the phone, the iPod, or the power pack for that 3 days - and that included a lot of use because I was spending way too much time sitting around in airports (and on planes) either listening to audible.com books on my iPod or watching Tivo'ed movies on my phone. - sheureka
