TomTom Go 300 weather and traffic updates works with 6700!!
I don't know if this has already been figured out, but I got the weather and traffic updates from the TomTom Plus service to work between my TomTom Go 300 and my XV6700. I made the bluetooth connection, told it that the access point was vzw3g.com, left the username and password fields blank, and put the #777 number in to dial. When it asked what phone I said the Ipaq 6115 (I think that was it) and chose Verizon (Express) as the service. It connected, downloaded all of the traffic data, and works like a champ so far. The PLUS service is free until the end of 2006 if you use your username (email address) and PLUS for the password.
Superrubber,
I have been trying to figure out which software to get for Navigation on my 6700 and have read EVERYTHING on the fourms about them...there just seems to be a lot of out-dated info as well as just conflicting reports. One of the big things I was looking for was the Traffic updates, becuase my car's nav has that and I love it. Another important thing to me is to have lots of POI's or the ability to add them from third party lists. As far as I know Tom Tom offers provides both. So, I was curious how you like Tom Tom's software in general: how it runs on your system, routing, speed, accuracy, etc... Thanks in advance for any comments...Colin Guinn
I'm an iGuidance 2.1.3 user so I can't answer your TomTom questions, but here's a GPS software features database that might help you with your research.
Colin, sorry about the big delay. Just had a baby and that kind of occupied all my time. To clarify, I don't use the 6700 as a GPS device, my TomTom device uses the 6700 to obtain an internet connection via BT to download traffic data. As far as the TomTom goes, I really like it. It has its pluses and minuses, but overall i think they are great. The traffic feature needs a little work, but there is a huge OS update coming out very soon (v6) and I'm waiting to see happens with that. It includes a whole new mapset from a different map provider.
That's very cool, I now have it on my 6700 and I am very satisfied for the most part. I like the fact that I can use my BT headset on a phone call while it communicates with my BT GPS receiver at the same time (i was under the impression that this was not possible). Two things that I'd like to be able to do though:
1. When I use the "call POI" feature, it doesn't recognize the phone, so it won't call
2. I haven't figured out how to just find out the address and phone number for a POI without routing to it.
3. Wish it said street names (or at least highway names) like some of the other nav programs.
Hopefully version 6 will fix these things. Thanks for the response.
