Saving a new number to existing contact??

I feel like an idiot for posting this, but I couldn't locate anything regarding this. For the PPC 6700, when you receive a call from a number that is not associated with an existing contact, how can you add it to an existing contact? (I know you can manually edit the contact and input that new number after memorizing it or writing it down). But like others phones, you can save it to an existing or new contact.

As of right now, when I get a call from a new number that I want to add to an exisiting contact, I click

menu/save to contacts - which creates new contact entry. I then cut and paste that new number to an existing contact, then delete the newly created contact. Is there an easier way? I'm sure I missing something here. If this is located somewhere on the board, please point me to that location and delete this thread. Sorry if i'm not clear in my explanation, its pretty late or early depending on how you think. 4:15am. Thanks.

From the amount of views, is it safe to assume that this is the way its done?

I think that is just a bad design. I copy and paste just like you. Something we have to live with I suppose.
