obviously you can't but you can bump it until someone who's willing to offer help and/or had the same problem does reply.

Anyway, it does turn out it's an impossible fix. I went down to sprint and told them i didn't have insurance. They did an initial service charge for "jammed joystick" for 35 dollars. I went back and they said they couldnt fix it and told me for an extra 20 dollars they could replace it with a refurbished one that worked (so 55 dollars total).

Then they told me since I had a service charge I could add insurance so if this happened again I wouldnt have to pay for service/replacement, which i did

Cliffs:
There is no joystick fix
55 dollars through sprint for a phone replacement w/o insurance

Front Button is Jammed In!

The front center button on my phone is jammed in and frequently and randomly presses itself. This has lead to MANY phone calls that I didn't really want to make because the phone was open. Also, whenever I open and close the slider it's enough shock to make the button click - so it's a real pain in general.

I'm okay with the button never working again, I just want the clicking to stop. I took a pair of needle nosed pliers and planned on just ripping the button straight out but it seems to have a larger base than top so it would probably tear out a few of the other buttons. Is there an easy way to remove the front buttons to take out the little stick?

Or better yet, is there a software way to disable the front button or change it's function to something useless?

Thanks!

Re: Button Stuck

If you are confident, you can unscrew your phone and try to fix it, or disconnect the wire for the button.

Is it just the two torix screws that hold the faceplate on? I'd hate to screw it up, but if I did - I really do like the 6800s!

O-it's more then two torix screws, (you only see two)

I called UTStarcom (1-800-229-1235) and they will fix it out of warrianty, but it will cost 75 for labor and 15 for the part. (They will not sell the part....I asked, and asked)

XV6700 joystick broken

I had the phone for about 2 weeks before I dropped it and got the front joystick button mashed in. I do not have insurance on the phone and I bought it off ebay but have no proof of purchase for the manufacturers warantee. I was curious if I would be able to go into verizon and get the phone fixed for a charge or if they can handle this somehow

wow @ people buying pda's and not putting insurance on it...

and bobthebaker its called a repair 55 but thats only valid within the first yr of having the phone and the stipulations for it are the same for TEP...it cant be lost or stolen, liquid damaged or broken into 3 or more pieces...and technically ERSP(in store replacement part of TEP) only covers wear and tear damage...not accidental damage...

I Pried the buttons off then took a pen spring(cut down to 1/8 when pressed, epoxied the joystick top to the button and clamped till dry. Now the spring pushes the joystick outward. Since I was Painting with plasti-dip, I waited to glue the side buttons back on. Who wants to go through another insurance issue!
