I know this is somewhat off the subject, but...

this seems to be the most intelligent, if not most educated group I have found on the 6700. I have tried most of the registry hacks listed on this form, and they work great.

Here is the issue...

I am running the 6700 with all the hacks you can imagine. I am running the rom upgrade, and I recommend a modified version of the upgrade to anyone using the 6700. The one thing I am having an issue with is the speed of the mini SD card. I have noticed that programs stored on the mini SD card run at about 1/3 the speed of the programs in main memory. I am running a 1 GB SanDisk mini SD card. I have been looking at upgrading to one with the 9 mbs write, and 4 mbs read speed. The question is will the reader be able to handle this speed, or will the upgrade be for nothing? Also is there any program out there other than Pocket Mechanic that can speed up the SD card?

Also the two best programs for hacking the 6700 are Tweaks2k2 and then for extreme hacking SKTolls. The program is a little tough to use, but one of the settings I recommend after extensive use is settign the font cache size to 131073. It seems a little high, but it almost doubles the speed of some programs.

If there is another forum I should put this in, or if anyone is interested in a list of some of the best software for the 6700 (I have tested over 1500 titles) please let me know.

Thanks

By the way, as a continuation of my previous post, I actually deleted all the .cab files form the extended ROM, put them on my SD card, and installed software on the extended ROM. As I mentioned before it runs about 3x faster than the mini SD card, and I don't see a reason to use the faster memory for .cab files.

I have the 1 GB ATP Pro Max 133x MiniSD card, and the difference in speed on the 6700 is almost insignificant between the SanDisk 1 GB, which I also have. You will, however, notice a difference if you use it with your PC/Mac.

i think that's very true, Jesse - if you notice how much faster files transfer to any of your mini-sd cards when you use a card reader as opposed to transferring through the phone...you will probably come to the conclusion that the phone itself is the bottleneck and no matter what card you put in, you're gonna get the same speed.

good observation-

Hi cllkpoint,

Please, if you know what you are posting is off-topic for a particular thread, then please, just do not post it to that thread, it just makes more work for me to have to come in and move the posts to a new thread. Its just as easy to start a new thread about your particular question so if you can please try to help me keep things on topic, I would really appreciate it. If you haven't done so already, please take a look at the sticky forum rules post, lots of good information for people new to this site such as yourself. Thanks!

Removed remainder of off-topic message as it was not on how to speed up cards - will start new thread on whether there are any problems in moving original .CABs on ROMS off to a card
