Anyone heard of this reg key before? I just found this thread over at xda-developers.com. Looks interesting...suppose to be some kind of real time memory defragmenter. I just created the key myself so haven't noticed any difference. Feel free to try and post results.
After using my phone all day today it had a total available memory of 23.14.
After a soft reset it reclaimed the memory and was at 28.23
I opened PIE and then closed PIE and the free memory dropped to 27.66.
I added the registry change of NeverDorkMemory and soft reset.
After the soft reset my memory was at 27.95.
I opened PIE and closed PIE. The memory dropped to 27.75 and jumped back up to 27.95.
It appears the registry change helps reclaim memory.
As posted at xda it appears the memory regain occurs with other users.
Interesting find. Thanks... more testers should try it so see how their memory changes from day to day without the dork and with the dork.
Only been testing the key for a couple hours, and it appears to have at least cut my memory leaks in half. With that said, I'll report back after testing it further.

I'm trying this hack and so far no problems. Interesting that these kind of things aren't programmed stock- you'd think they would want to release the device with these kind of minor tweaks already enabled.
that's why i am watching the thread on xda-developers to see what they uncover about this - i can't imagine it's just something they "forgot" to enable...there must be some give and take and i wanna know what the give is.

Now that I've had the key running for a day. It does not appear to be helping as much as I hoped. Maybe it's still reclaiming .5 to 1MB or up to 20% of the lost processor memory. This estimate is based this on the amount shown after a soft reset verses the amount available after a day of heavy use, with and without the key. That said, I'm guessing Spb+ and other apps are leaking like normal, lol..
Just checking in to make sure I know what the actual verdict is on this one. It seems like everything, hell, even the updates/upgrades from Sprint are give and take

Well, I've got about 2mb or so freed up after this hack. Which isn't a terrible thing, considering everything I've got installed on this phone. 2mb doesn't make a lot of difference, but it helps since the hack for moving PIE storage files to the minisd card doesn't work, and I'm a heavy PIE user. I think I'll keep it!

I havent tried the hack or read the initial link however I believe it just affects ram... nothing to do with what you have installed nor PIE cache... thats program memory. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.
Yes... RAM... running apps memory side is where I've noticed the difference. The key will not clear your PIE cache.
For PIE, you need to go in manually and clear it's memory, history, and cookies cache. Well, unless you use MemMaid or another 3rd party app to remove the files.

Yeah. Ya'll are correct. My bad. Still, a bit more program memory isn't a bad thing in my book.

Any bad side effects yet guys? Hamsup - did you see any improvement now that you've been using the hack for awhile? I've been cautiously watching like Jeffreii but am eager to try it now if it still has no known side effects.
Totally forgot I started this thread...thanks for the bump mbartels...After having this reg tweak for a few days, I didn't see any side effects. I even noticed that my popup notifications are popping up almost immediately where before it would take a good 5-10 seconds (could be a total coincidence). It seems that it does help manage the program memory better..it will release it after exiting an app slightly better than w/o the key. No major performance boost but anything helps.

hmpsup1o,
I can confirm the same experiences. I'm loving how much faster I am getting pop-up notifications, especially.

That's interesting..maybe this tweak did help it. I was messing with SKTools past weekend after the dork tweak so I didn't know which helped the popups. Thanks for confirming!!
I tried this tweak 2 days ago and noticed that now my free program memory seems to fluctuate.
-Soft reset and start with 20MB free.
-Run a few apps and the drop to about 17MB in a few hours.
-But, if I press my phone button (Cingular 8125) even if I don't make a call, once I close it and return to my home screen, I notice my free memory jumps back to about 19-20MB free again.
Odd stuff, but at least I haven't had to reset in a day to reclaim free space!
Looks like it's just in our heads that this reg key works. According to a member of the WM team, this key doesn't do anything on WM5. It was a key that could be used with WM2003 when the memory slider existed.
