I just picked up a used 1gb sandisk card for $20. Cleared the card and put a few video clips on it. WMA and AVI clips. So far every clip i've tried to play has been really choppy sound and the vid has looked almost like a slide show, just single clips every now and then, nothing about the video play is smooth. Whats the deal?
You should be good. What media player are you using. If your using the windows Media player go try the TCPMP. If your still getting a choppy playback think I would say it the video file itself. Just type TCPMP in google and you will find it with no problem
I too have not run into any problems with WMP or CORE in regard to choppy video. Although, I did notice some bugs with WMP audio play back before the Sprint ROM update. IMHO, CORE (TCPMP) rules WMP with it's ability to play more video and audio formats.
Jonny360, if you have a ton of 3rd party apps running, maybe they are slowing down your system and causing audio video issues. Not sure what else it could be...
tcpmp is free....i use it and love it. I usually keep 1 or 2 dvd's (converted to avi's) on my sandisk card...and they play great. I'd guess it's the video files too (assuming there's nothing wrong with the used card)
Good luck
Definately make sure you have actually closed other apps. Also check to be sure you haven't installed too much in the PPC's memory. While I'm not familiar with the 6700 yet (have yet to buy one, but soon), all of my other PPC devices share program and storage memory. In other words... too much stuff installed on the phone means less memory to use when running programs. Movies need a good bit of memory especially if they haven't been formatted specifically for the PPC. Stick with BetaPlayer (a.k.a. TCPMP), it's been good to me for a few years now.
I have been messing around for a while but cannot get my videos tweaked right.
I am using Nero Recode 2 to make the files. I currently have 320x240 video size and am using TCPMP to play the video.
I have done most of the hacks already, but that has not helped at all; including running at 624 mhz. I have no programs running in the background, with 13.98 MB Storage free and 25.97 MB Program memory free.
I was hoping somebody who is able to get their files to work correctly could let me know what settings they are using.
I have been going insaine trying to get this to work for the last few days, one can only play bubble breaker so many times at work before they get sick of it.
Well, after messing with it all last night and this morning, I finally got the files to run much better.
Just in case anybody else is having problems, this is what I have set up to get things working.
Open Nero Recode 2, then I select the "Record DVDs and Videos to Nero Digital" because I am selecting files that are already on my computer.
Then I select the "+ Import Files" and select all of the files that I wish to recode.
Then, just for fun, I deselect the "Fit to target" box on the lower right corner, and then hit the "More <<" button on the lower left side, which brings down another menu.
I leave the import profile selection on the default, and change the "Nero Digital profile" to Portable. ( I am not saying that this is the best selection to make, but it is the one that works for my phone) Then I hit the "Next ->" button.
On this next screen, titled "Burn Settings", on the upper left side, I select the option that says "Nero Digital Settings". Then under "Encoding method", I selected "Real-time encoding (1-pass)"
After that, I just hit the "Burn" button and let it go.
The reason that I select the "Portable" setting is that my screen size ( on the Verizon PPC6700/XV6700 ) is 240X320. The Portable profile is listed for sizes up to 352X288.
As far as any other phone changes I have done, I have done the Rom upgrade and a few minor adjustments that are found under one of the posts listing the important things to do to the phone. I had installed Pocket Hack Master 2005, but later removed it because it was unnecessary for my applications.
I hope this helps anybody else who might be tearing their hair out trying to get their videos to play correctly.
As stated in a previous post, Overclocking can help video quality significantly. If you haven't tried this, you may want to look into Pocket Hack Master or XCPUScalar. I have a shortcut on my today screen to XCPUScalar right next to my shortcut to TCPMP. I tap the first shortcut and my phone automatically goes to 624mhz (I don't run this program all the time, only on/off as needed per application), then tap the second to go to my movies. It takes about 1 second extra as opposed to going straight to my movies if you set it up to start by itself then minimize. Works great and battery drain is negligible if you are just looking at some short clips. If you tried to watch a full movie like this I'd imagine it would suck your battery dry very quickly though. ......EDIT...... Don't ask me how I missed in your last post that you had already tried Pocket Hack Master...DUH! But anyways this still might help others having problems so I won't delete it. Also there are some registry hacks that help video playback also, although I can't think of them off the top of my head. A search should come up with some stuff.
I have noticed that when playing back video using Windows Media or TCPMP the video is slightly choppy at times . not unwatchable just kinda annoying. I have owned many pocket PCs. ones with much slower chips and have not had this issue.
Does anyone else notice this? is there a reg setting that can fix? or do i maybe have a bad unit. I have unill 6/6/06 to return under verizon 15 day policy so any input would be appreciated.
just for info i use pocket DVD studio to encode. usually at 300-345 kbps with a san disk 2gb ultra mini SD

I notice this happens too, but only when my phone connects to the internet to download email or get weather updates. I've come to expect a little choppiness every half hour or so when my phone is set to check email. Short of that I don't have any problems with video at all, and I gave up on using any overclocking software because of the battery drain.
