6700 cannot install .NET CF 2.0 after ROM update

Those of us with the 6700 and the new ROM image recently released for Sprint phones cannot install .net CF 2.0 for reasons that are unclear. It does not matter if one gets the .net CF 2.0 package from wififum, or directly from Microsoft. Either way fails.

The error message:

Error [OK]
Installation error. Stop all applications and processes. Maximize avaialable storage space, and run the installation again. Support Info: 4.

Other notes: I have plenty of storage (on the device) and via mini-SD card available. I tried a hard reset of my 6700 and still get the same error message.

Perhaps someone will post a solution for us 6700 users...

PS: I had been using WiFiFum with .NET CF 2.0 before I upgraded my ROM just fine...

I have successfully setup .NET CF 2.0 after upgrading with the new ROM, but I installed it as one of the first apps after the hard reset, and made sure to put it in main storage per the instructions from the .NET CF team.

I'm sorry I can't help with your problem, but I'm pretty sure that if you do a hard reset and run it as one of the first installations to main storage after the reset that it will work fine.

Good luck!

I have CF 2.0 on my new-ROm 6700. The WiFiFoFum package did not work, but I installed from the Microsoft redistributable package without issue. No brilliant ideas about your problem.

I had the same problem and what I determined is that if you have the ext_rom unhidden I was not able to install .NET CF. Once I hid the ext_rom, then it installed like it should. I was then able to unhide the ext_rom again and everything continued to work.

There are couple of files I run to unhide the rom. They were posted awhile back. One is a cab that gets installed and the other is an exe that you run on the device. I just reversed the process by running the exe and uninstalling the program from the installed programs listing to re-hide the rom.

Not sure if that is the correct way to re-hide the rom, but it has worked for me.

I have an unhidden Extended ROM. I moved the contents to my SD card, and installed several programs there.

So, I have CF 2.0 installed, and did so after exposing the ROM.

Here is an MS Blog post which explains a bug in WM5 that creates problems installing .NETCF2.0. http://blogs.msdn.com/markprenticems/archive/2006/02/17/534274.aspx
