VZ Caller ID Not Showing, Only Shows Calling #

Is anyone else having an issue whereby on incoming calls the name of the caller isn't showing? I'm only getting the phone # with no ID unless they are in my contacts list. Any way to adjust this to show both? I'm not seeing anything in my setup.

Had the Treo 600 last. This wasn't an issue. I could turn user name and/or calling number on and off at will.

Ive never heard of a carrier that passed on name information in their Caller ID.

From Sprint: 'Using Caller ID: Caller ID automatically displays the phone number of incoming calls to your Sprint PCS phone. You don't have to do anything to set up this feature."

From Verizon: "Caller ID automatically shows on the display of the users cellular phone, the calling party's telephone number. The cellular user therefore has the ability to screen the call to determine whether to answer it or let it go to voice mail."

From Cingluar: "Caller ID lets you to know who's calling before you answer a call. When your phone rings, Caller ID shows the telephone number of the calling party on your phone's display. Take important calls and let voice mail handle the rest."

From T-Mobile: "Caller ID displays the caller's phone number on your phone display. With Caller ID, you know who is calling before you answer the phone. T-Mobile provides Caller ID services free of charge to all customers."

Cattle-Dog, I don't know how you put this together from each carrier but it's appreciated. I had Cingular with my Treo and I received the name also as I do on my home phone and could turn it on and off. It just seems odd now not receiving the name I guess until I get used to it.

I had ATT&T, Then Cingular and never had the name of the person calling displayed on my cell phone. The name only displays if they are in your contacts list...and whatever name you associate with that number.

I've worked in the wireless industry for several years (with multiple carriers) and have never seen a mobile phone pass caller ID name information unless the name was specifically programmed into the contact list. The number is the only thing that is passed, as noted above. I've used some kind of device from almost every manufacturer (including Treo 600 and 650 on Sprint, Cingular, and Rogers) on the market and the behavior is the same.

Maybe you had a magical device?
