Thumbs down why does my 6700 startup so slow??

So i have this one gig storage card from SD. On the card I have some games, some pics, and an app or two..using 35mb..

on loadup the load time is out of control!

In fact, I used to see the windows mobile screen...and now I only see the Verion image. The things that load are handyswticher from main memory and pocket hack master..

anybody have a clue why this is happening?

PHM slows it down.

Can you tell us how long it takes to boot? It's not a quick process at all...unfortunetly.

Mine takes 55 seconds from when the white screen first appears after pressing soft reset...to get the password screen up.

My startup folder contains:
Batti
Backup Manager Deleter (for SunnySoft Backup)
Card Export (Softick)
Handy Launcher, Handy Menu, Handy Switcher
Pocket Outlook
SDDaemon (for voice dial)

(Old ROM)
Nothing is installed to the SD card (not anything thats in my start folder at least).

I would bet most of my extra time is due to loading Softick's Card Export drivers, but 55 seconds is like waiting for a computer to boot up, so it's never really bothered me...

How does yours compare?

I never install anythign on the sd card, that's just going to slow it down. Are you sure you use all the apps on the main memory? Get rid of some and move the sd card one there and you're issues should be solved.

If I recall from past use...VoiceCommand slows bootup significantly. but it used to restore itself if you just removed it from your StartUp group. Somewhere there was a tip tofix this....hmmm..if only I had a memory...

you should try disabling the startup of a program like voicecommand and/or PHM to see what the difference in boot times is. 90 seconds is definitely a lot!

You know, I was thinking that maybe Resco Keyboard should be installed on the main memory. Maybe that's the problem.

Using a stopwatch

Official Times:
1:34.2 min - after allegedly deleting the PHMAutoStartup
1:36.2 min - Voice Command in startup, deleted Pock Hack Master in startup, left PHMAuto.. and changed some settings
1:33.1 min - With the SD Card removed
1:27.7 min - No SD Card, disabled PHMAuto

I have 3 deductions, either..

A. The amount of programs that are on the startup menu take time to load
B. The ppc has to calculate the apps into the programs screen
C. Its time to hard reset

Shucks.

A hard reset and fresh re-install of everything makes me feel lighter and rejuvenated...maybe it's that time for you.

Hi InPocket,

Am I understanding you correctly, 90+ seconds to just turn on your 6700 and get to the today screen? Wow, at least you can laugh about it! Cheers!

Sheezz, I have no overclocking software and around 30 apps besides the stock software. This includes MS VC, Spb+, Resco, multiple launchers/menu apps, Core MP, 2 weather apps, pocket informant, 1.5GB+ of music/vid files, half the 3rd party apps on the card, as well as a big "no no"... a storage card plug-in on the today screen. And with all that overhead, the boot time is 4 to 5 seconds including the passcode input, 1 second without the passcode step, and 90 seconds from soft reset to a fully functioning today screen.

Anyway, if your normal wake up time is that long without your system somehow soft resetting at every power up. You should really think about lowering the overhead with hard reset. Just make sure you back up everything first. Then you can slowing reload a program at a time until you find out what's dragging down the system. Yikes!!! Even my XP laptops fire up faster than 91 seconds. Although, you're still not as bad off as some Win98 systems collecting dust around here, lol...

Regardless, that's just cruel and unusual for WM5, or any CE device for that matter. Hehehe, especially if you were born without patiences, lol...

he's talking about 90 seconds for soft reset...i said 55 seconds...you thought we meant like the time it took from hitting the power button until the phone comes back from standby? mine takes about a whole 1 second.

Normal wakeup time is 1 second..
Normal bootup time is an episode of "Good Times", lol, not really..about a minute and a half..

Im giving up though..

I have too many programs, too many hacks, too many settings which means im not hard reseting until a ROM update from Verizon..

So im going to just give up..

but on a last note...

can it be that my card isnt formatted in a certain way, i.e. FAT vs FAT32?

..thanks everyone for their time

1:10 for me to boot from the exact moment I hit the soft reset button. From the white screen I guss it would be about 5 seconds faster.

since you removed your storage card and didn't see much improvement, the way it's formatted is not likely the culprit.
