cannot install MS Voice Command 1.5 upgrade / update after ROM update

So I have the old MSFT VC 1.00 and 1.5 upgrade. Unfortunately it won't let me just install the upgrade so I installed VC 1.0 first with errors to my PPC6700. I then attempted the upgrade but the installer says that it cannot locate a VC1.0 install to proceed with the upgrade. ANy suggestions? I have searched this thread high and low and cannot find a solution.

-You have to install 1.0
-take off cradle
-uninstall 1.0 from your PC
-re-cradle
-install 1.5.

If you had voice command installed prior to the update, make sure to uninstall it from your pc or you will get this error. If you did that already, sorry can't help you.

Look in the Voice command folder in the program files of your computer.... under 1.5 you will see a nice cab file there... drag to PPC, install. no weird upgrade path.

Voice Command

I had the same problem myself

1st-Use ActiveSync to remove all versions of Voice Command from your PPC (and computer)

Check under Control Panels/Add-Remove programs to be sure no Voice command apps are installed.

Remove the PPC from the cradle, keep it out

Install Version 1.0 or 1.01 (which ever you have). At the end it will tell you that it will be installed on the PPC at next sync.

Run Version 1.5 and let it get thru. You will get the same message at the end of the install

Cradle the PPC and only version 1.5 will get sent to the PPC.

Remember to install it to the device (you will get a warning whichever you choose, dismiss the warning) and then soft reset.

By the way, I am using Voice Command with a Bluetooth headset and with the new ROM, it keeps looking for voice dialer tags. It will not allow you to say the contacts name.

If anyone figures this out, please post it.

I have voice command v1.5 running with the new ROM and BT800 seems to work pretty well. I have no problems with the other program, the only thing I did was remapped the button for voice command instead of voice dialler.

Install Tweaks 2k2 on the device. Run it. Under Phone Tweaks, set the "Voice Command for Voice Dialing" or similar-named checkbox. Exit. Uninstall Tweaks if you want (after 3 runs, you have to buy it). Voila, pressing the BT headset button will initiate Voice Command. I found that it works a little better after a soft reset (you hear the VC beep when pressing the headset button).

There must be different versions of the VC installer because I don't have to install 1.0 and then the 1.5 upgrade, I only have one VC installer and it installs 1.5.

Perhaps you guys can go back to whereever you bought your VC from and get the 1.5 installer.

Voice Command is driving me nuts!!!

I realize it's probably too late for me to be working on this. I can't let it go though, I have VC version 1.01 and the upgrade to 1.5. I've uninstalled off the PC and the PPC. I've installed and then deleted 1.01. Upon trying to install 1.5 both off the PC and the CAB from the Microsoft VC folder, it tels me that I either need to install 1.01 onto my PC or to uninstall something off my PPC that I've already done.

I'm at a major loss of one of my favorite programs since the new ROM upgrade.

Please help me, I can't stop working on this problem,

Dave

BTW, if the specific problem you're having is that the installer isn't finding the Voice Command.msi file you can simply log off the current PC account your logged on with and then re-log on your WinXP PC with the administrators account (even if your current account is this level) and re-do the install there. (I think that the point is to simply use any other admin level user account) It will then perform the full installation. Reboot the laptop and sync, either you will load automatically or you can install from the .cab which was just created in the Program Files directory.
