This will be the official discussion thread for the pending Sprint 6700 Rom update. In order to keep the discussion focused on the topic at hand, please keep the following in mind before posting to this thread:
1. Please do not post things like "I want it now!!!!" or "Just got my 6700 updated, this rocks!!!!" or "what does MSFP/AKU2 stand for?" or " what does this ROM update do? do I need it?" or "does this update work with Verizon?" You should use the search function of this site and/or Google to get these basic questions answered.
2. I would like to try and keep this discussion focused mainly on technical aspects so that people do not have to weed through useless posts that do nothing but take up space. So before posting, take a second and make sure your comments help to further the discussion or if you have a question, that it is a relevant one and not one that can be easily answered with a little bit of searching and/or reading of the entire thread. If I feel your post doesn't really contribute to the thread or bring up a relevant question, I may delete it. If that happens and you would like to know why, please feel free to PM me.
3. If your intention is to let others know where to get their 6700 updated, try to provide information such as the street address and if possible, the first name of the person who performed the upgrade for you so that people do not have to make additional posts and ask you.
Provides Microsoft’s “Messaging and Security Feature Pack” along with minor fixes:
1) Enable DDTM as default.
2) Display now stays on during WiFi connection.
3) Removes need for log in credentials when merely stepping through modem settngs.
4) Adds error codes for MIP.
5) Fixes skip in music when playing from a storage card.
6) Keeps handset from losing DO service when PRL has multiple DO systems with same Subnet ID.
7) Fixes inability to make voice calls in DO if PPP re-sync fails.
From Sprint's Website Description *Info Purposes Ony. This is interested
New features added are:
Enhanced security using Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME).
The Direct Push technology (Push E-Mail feature) of the Messaging & Security Feature Pack which enables you to receive e-mail messages as soon as they arrive, without waiting for your PPC 6700 to synchronize at a specified interval.
Support for A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), which allows the use of Bluetooth-enabled stereo headsets. *WTF*
The ROM update wipes your phone clean. Need to restore via ActiveSync. I didn't hard-reset--just handed it over. NO PROBLEM with reinstalling my own self-signed cert and syncing with my exchange server.
I know the 6600/6601 EV-DO update was a tough deal (never materialized) but fear not, this one's for real!
OK... It means it's AKU 2.0 (as opposed to AKU 2.2), but that's not surprising. Push e-mail should definitely be in there, A2DP was in the beta release so hopefully it's still there. The HTC Smartdialer should be there.
Other things you may want to check for:
time sync in phone options on by default
alt and shift keyboard indicator
gps control panel on by default
picture/video mail app? (doubtful)
ability to poll more than one pop e-mail account
OK TB, you keep forgetting to answer the only question that counts. Were you able to get a copy? My sprint store has nothing but idiots and have no clue what I am talking about. Did it require a special cord, or anything special that they need on their side?
