If we go to the sprint store for the upgrade, won't we have a phone with all the junkware installed???

All upgrades start with flashing the official rom. Then you mod the extended rom as you see fit and hard reset again.

My take:
First, i would like to have another poll for how happy people are with the upgrade after having used it for a couple of weeks.
For the most part my bluetooth is better, however i had a few issues with pairing it.
Anyone wishing to upgrade should get their msid and mdn numbers first so you don't have to go back and redo the upgrade again.
My car charger, which previously didn't work, now works.
I went through the picture mail procedure and it works with this upgrade.
I've noticed alot fewer, if any sofar, soft resets.
The battery does drop quickly now.
I like the voice dialer, I have it set to run on my bluetooth beacuse the Voice Command program is pretty much useless in a noisy car. I put my most used contacts in that program and use voice command from an assigned button on the phone itself when i need to call othes.
I'm still working on the email so it doesn't show all emails coming from my sprintpcs account. I would recommend that before you do the upgrade you go into your settings for all your email accounts and write down all the smtp and pop stuff.
I would recommend gettings tweaks2k2 for anyone not wanting to do all these hacks by hand. I used to do those on my old ipaq but am more leary on this phone, just seems like more can go wrong.
Mortsaver works fine, the voice dialer won't work while mort's on, though.
Also, i wish the bluetooth worked even when the device was locked, maybe i haven't found that option yet...still playing
The voice command lady telling you who's calling is still useless, cant hear her.

All in all the phone is much better now than it was before.
I hope this is useful to anyone wanting to upgrade.

Yes

Search, has been a few pages on the main forum about this problem.

Usually its just a reinstall of ActiveSync(4.1) that fixes it, or turning off/adding ActiveSync(4.1) as an allowed application to your firewall if you have one.

And you have to use ActiveSync 4.1 with the new rom now. Unlike before where you could use 4.0, now 4.1 is required. 4.1 is on the cd that came with your 6700 or you can find it on Microsoft.com

I know on Pocket PC PDA is never recommended. if you lose connection during the upgrade your phone could be an expensive brick! plus you need the battery charged but its always nice to be getting some power off the USB cable as well.

Serial and USB hardwired connections are the only ways to do a ROM upgrade unless you have it in a form that can be flashed from the miniSD. This form is not available right now so Serial/USB are your only options. The only way to brick a phone during a ROM upgrade is a bad flash of the bootloader, which isn't flashed in this upgrade. At worst, you just have to put the phone in bootloader mode and reflash from there. As long as you read and plan ahead, it's quite a painless process to be honest. The hardest part of the upgrade is reinstalling all your own apps.

First of all thanks for all the info.

Can someone please open a thread with a list of files they removed (junkware) and what files are optional (up to the user to remove or not)

I read so many random posts that I ended up deleting the wrong cab files and edited my config file the wrong way. I searched and found THIS THREAD, so those who have modified their EXT ROMS, please list what did you delete etc ....

Thanks!

n new rom, may have phine call not come in prob..
To regain call come in & interrupt evdo , thn continue when end call, you must do the "reset phone" procedure.

this requires your MSL, MSID, and MDN values.
Read up on it.
don't reflash old rom back!

Yes, this is now fixed - there is an option to repeat alarms!

X-Post: New ROM Underway to Resolve MSFP Issues

See my post here:

http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=69513

Basically, the 2.06.00 WWE ROM disappeared from the Sprint site because it has been officially pulled due to known issues. A replacement ROM will be available within a couple weeks...

After reading the above post, I went to the sprint site and the software is still there for download. I was already to redo my ROM, but now I am confused whether to do it with the existing download or wait a couple of weeks. Any thoughts?

Just wait and see what happens... If you already have the ROM, keep it. If you don't, it's still an improvement over the old one in many ways already discussed in the sticky thread.

No the Verizon version does NOT have the new rom update yet, nor does it have the new features that are included in the rom update.

unless you want push email the rom update is not that huge...has a few fixes, a few tweaks, a few more bugs...smoother operation...but i'm still on the old rom waiting for www.logmein.com to fix their software and i'm more curious than anything to try the new rom...but if there were any huge change that i wanted i probably would have done it already.
