Can whoever suggested typing ##RTN# edit their post and put in a disclaimer so that unsuspecting users don't do it flippantly? Something like:

##RTN# is the most destructive command you can issue to your phone. It returns your phone to its out-of-box condition and it will not work again until you enter in several pieces of information that most end-users don't have. If the terms MSL, MDN, and MSID don't mean anything to you then do not type ##RTN#--or be prepared to call Sprint customer care if you do.

To do the IOTA after doing ##RTN# Would I install it from the Extended_Rom via Total Commander? or is it another ## command?

I concur... if i didn't know my MSL, i would be pissing in my pants right now. Anyways, I followed Merlyn's instructions and was able to get a fully functional phone again. Thanks guys. Now to reinstall everything again =/

Okay, it goes like this:
  • Pre-reset: MAKE SURE you have the MSL, MSID, and MDN values
  • Do the ##RTN# reset
  • allow the software customizations to install. If you don't, you won't be able to do the ## codes at all to program the phone
  • hit ##[msl]# and program your phone
  • after the soft reset go to phone, options, services, internet, and initiate IOTA, it'll connect, download settings in the background, and you'll know it's done when you see the EVDO disconnect and there's just a big EV icon there.

now your phone should be ready to dial up to evdo.

You must install the IOTA software (during the extrom process) in order to use IOTA. If you do a ##RTN#, after you program in your MDN and MSID the phone should initiate IOTA automatically after the soft reset. If it doesn't, you can find it in Phone options under settings.

even after doing this... i still see Sprint Only , Automatic and Roaming Only in the Phone section. I let all the cabs run thru this time instead of hitting cancel during the software setup phase...

Cool Thanks

I noticed after I did ##RTN# a few minutes ago and all the programs installed. I had a big EV at the top, but I couldnt use vision or make calls, could only make calls to Sprint.

Thanks again

Under Setting -> Phone -> Services -> Roaming

I have Sprint Only, Automatic, and Roaming Only.

What else should be there?

Back on post 180, someone said that it was supposed to say Home Only and Standard. But when I re-read the post, I think it might be for some other option?? Also, my location setting is ON by default, opposed to his being OFF.

Well against my better judgement I just upgraded my 6700 (not because I don't trust it... I just don't really have a ton of time right now to mess with it).

First thing I noticed was the new Sprint logo splash screen (not sure if that was already present in the v2 6700s with the blue keyboard lite).

The guy that said his roaming options changed must not have totally installed the extrom, as mine are all the same.

Stupid Sprint still wants to prevent people from uninstalling their crapware. What an ill-advised decision. At least we can get around it, but in all honesty we shouldn't have to.

Nice to see the performance improvements... everything is much snappier now.

Removal of A2DP (it was present and working fine in the beta version) is a major bummer. I am certain though that it's just a matter of time before the needed files are hacked and installable via cab file.

So glad to see the ability to clear the VM icon... long, long overdue (the 6600 didn't have it either). Shows they listened to our suggestions.

Yet here's one they ignored--STILL no Alt/Caps lock indicator. This one's really puzzling, because not only did the 6600 have it, but so does the Wizard (not sure about the Universal... can that_kid or another Universal user chime in on that?)

No time to cook my extrom until the weekend. Lots of interesting cabs in there. I wonder if the DirectShow cab contains codecs to enable Sprint TV (that's my guess anyway).

Yes a Alt/Caps lock indicator would of been really nice. No way of getting the cabs or reg files from the phones that already have it?

Yes the VM Icon... I used to call my phone leave a blank msg, check the message and it would go away. But later found out that pressing * after checking your VM, clears the icon too.

How was A2DP in beta? I'm sure the cabs will be extracted soon. Any links still have the beta hosted?

The only things I did NOT install were the known junkware files. i.e. Biz Connect, Audible, Sprint Store. Everything else was installed. Just tested out my roaming and now when I go to Windsor instead of kicking me over to "Digital Roaming" five seconds out of the tunnel, it simply stays on Sprint until I get no signal whatsoever which is around the time I get to the 401.

Yeah, I wasn't actually referring to you in my post--in fact you were the one that informed us that when properly set up (i.e. extrom installed) that the roaming options are the same as with the shipping ROM. It was someone else earlier in the thread who said he had different choices there (which I should have recognized in the beginning as being the generic, un-customized options).

In other words, I was confirming your findings.

In your roaming test, what setting did you have it on? When I set mne to Roaming Only, the Sprint signal drops immediately and I've got the roaming icon within ten seconds. I've not seen another Sprint phone that offers this feature... it's pretty cool (especially in cases where the phone would otherwise try to hold onto a very weak Sprint signal when a stronger roaming signal is available).

So I should call Sprint and get my MSL code, then do a ##786# reset, then it will reset everything in my phone and my EVDO will be interrupted when a phone call comes in, correct? I have a backup of all my stuff installed AFTER the ROM upgrade already so I assume I can just restore from that after this is all done?

You can only enable that if you have your device setup to sync with an exchange server.

I don't have it on my jasjar either which is a bummer. One thing that I thought would make it to the apache that was on the jasjar was a today plugin that shows the flight mode status, what wifi ap you're connected to and bluetooth status. Imate put a cab in the extended rom to remove the registry settings on the jasjar but bypassing the extended rom would show it. On the 6700 this didn't happen so I'm going to try to add it manually. Working on 4 hours of sleep after getting everything set back up. So far I really like what I see. There were some other additions that I thought were great but it's too early for me to remember what they were .

For some reason messages sent to my xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com address will not go through at all. A message sent from a phone goes through fine. Anyone else experiencing this?

that_kid..

I have exchange setup through activesync. If that is working already how can I tell if "push" has taken over instead? When I hit the button it either lights up, or goes dark, but gives no alert that "push" is actually working.

Ideas?
