Today Is The Day!! New Software Release for 6700!!!!
Tonight, a "push" to all of the TSR machines will allow the 6700 to be updated.
The only note on what this software release fixes is the Flight Mode randomly going on.
This is the update we've been waiting for (maybe). Tomorrow, 9AM, the techs at your local Sprint store will have a software update.
A tech I'm friends with says that the store he works at is not ready for the update- meaning they do not have the cables or the software/drivers to update a 6700. He recommended me bringing my USB cable tomorrow so I can be his "test dummy."
I saw the Sprint memo sent out today. It mentions nothing of other fixes or A2DP.
when ya find out exactly what is on this update, pls let us know, and if anyone has the skills, maybe save the update into a cab or something and post it to share with the vzw people? that'd be sweet.
I'm gonna go to Sprint this morning. If I can talk the tech into it, I'm gonna get him to put in on my USB flash drive. However, he told me it was going to be around 45mb, and I don't have anywhere I can post the file. Anyone able to post, let me know. I'll be back this evening when I get off work.
It would be pretty dumb for sprint to have ppl bring in their ppc's for an update. Lots of waste of their time.. They should just have the file on thier site like they did for the treo's so we can update it ourselves. This would save them and us lotta time..
No, it's not bogus. I called my local store (one I know has good techs) and they spent time digging around in their system--came back and told me the update is there but "no instructions on how to apply it without wiping out what's already in the phone". When they have the instructions they will do the update for me. They even gave me the specific file name of the update and it contains, in part, "200600" which gives me hope it might contain AKU2.
As with any ROM update, everything but the boot loader will get wiped.
But to be honest, I wouldn't hold my breath. All PDA phones I've known (at least through HTC, the 6700's maker) have been released as standalone updates available online. Even if Sprint did the upgrades themselves in-store, all you need is a standard USB cable. I don't know what else that tech would need and why he couldn't do it now. Attach USB cable, run exe file. Pretty simple.
I hope its true, I'm dying to see if A2DP is included. But, as I said, I wouldn't hold my breath. When someone actually sees the update on Sprint's website (I checked, it wasn't there), then we'll know its here. All this "inside info" stuff rarely pans out.
I talked to a LOCAL Sprint tech today who checked his system and gave me the FILE NAME of the update. I call that a pretty positive sign--who wants to bet my 6700 is updated within 24hrs?
