More rings before pickup before it goes to voicemail - how do I set up??

How would I set my phone to allow more rings before switching over to voicemail? I did a bunch of searching and could not find this answer.

Thank you.

Keri

The phone does not switch the call to voice mail your Voicemail system from your provider does. Not all providers allow you to change that option.

Dial into your voice mail and dig around or call customer support.

keri - if you haven't changed your slot cycle index to 0 (or 1, but i prefer 0) that could be the source of your problems.

search for "ringer response" and check out the method for changing the SCI - it's clearly explained in post #15 and will likely solve your problem if you haven't done it already.

if not, i'm afraid you're out of luck - i didn't notice any option for changing rings before voicemail from sprint...thought AT&T used to offer it.

good luck,

-jeff

You have to call verizon customer support.

They have to do it on their end. I had the same problem.

With verizon I dont think you need your MSL. the code is 000000

I would put these in the tips and tricks section, but that thread is going to get long and these two questions are already far too common, so here's a thread with a quick answer that will be easily SEARCHABLE (hint, hint!).

To do this, you will need your MSL, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you. Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST). You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone. From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2).

Also on this page is your preferred operation mode. The Default is Automatic, which is the best available mode (EV that will roll back to 1X when EV is unavailable). There are times when you might be in a fringe area and your mode may cycle frequently and this can seriously drain your battery. Setting this to HDR will force EV-DO only if you demand an EV-DO connection. Changing this setting to CDMA Only will force the phone to ignore an EV-DO tower and maintain only a 1xRTT connection.

Hope this helps you all out!

Thanks. I actually did this last week, but I was hoping for an option that would allow me to choose how long the ringer will ring. In my V710 there was a hack that I could do to set the ringer to a certain amount of seconds. No hack, huh?

that is controlled by the carrier's network, not the hardware/software in the phone - so you will need to contact verizon.

good luck,
