I been trying to pair my IBLUE GPS BT Reciever to TOMTOM5... I even edited the "\Program Files\Navigator\Navigator.cfg" w/ hex editor and changed COM7 to COM8... and still no luck..
Now when i load Tomtom, It shows following:
QCT Data Interface
COM7:
RIL on COM2:
Serial IR on COM1:
Ir on COM3:
No matter wot i click above, it doesnt pair with BT...(not sure why it still shows COM7, when i changed to COM8???)
I currently have IBLUE BT GPS Paired for my IGuIDANCE 2.1.3 using COM8 and it works like charm... I am going to London tomm, and want to use TOMTOM5 for better maps, so trying to get TOMTOM5 work on COM8 too..
I do have 5.21 .. but it is acting weird and it dont install to STORAGE cArd.. so i am sticking with 5.10 which has been working good.. but trying to figure out how to pair it to my BT GPS on COM8.
It appears that tomtom is not the most friendly program out there. i struggled with their install for a week, finally figuring out that, 1. they sent me CD's that won't load into a wm5 OS. I needed to download all their stuff. 2. I discovered that the tomtom software will not work with many GPS receivers because they don't do v2.2 of the standard. V2 may work but they claim it will not be 100%, whatever that means. So, after finally getting the software and maps installed with downloads from their support center, v 5.21 BTW, I now just bit the bullet and sent them another order for their 100% compatible BT receiver. I would have purchased it in the first place but their advertising led me to believe it would work with other NMEA 0183v2 (from memory) GPS receivers. Not so!
Also, a tip for you. When you want to try to pair your GPS receiver and need to set up a comport, you do NOT need to go to the hack trouble, at least not on the XV6700. If you go into settings/system and set the GPS ports to what you want and is available; then on soft reset those seem to show up in the tomtom GPS config list. I got that far, ie the GPS receiver was paired and the com ports all matched but the data from the receiver could not be translated. Frustrating. The receiver I have does work with other GPS software so I know it is functional! I just happened to like the tomtom so I went with that, having no idea that it was such an obtuse installation full of incompatibilities.
I'm using an iBlue with both TomTom 5.21 and Mapopolis on my PPC6700 with no problems, so it does work. Did you use the GPSView app that came with the iBlue to see if you can connect to the GPS using that? When i originally setup the com port for the B connection to the iBlue, I chose Com0, but later found that I couldn't connect to the iBlue on Com0, so I changed the BT Connection to use Com8 and I have had no problems since then.
Yah I had it set as Outgoingonly.. it does show IBLUE(COM6) in COMPORTs tab... and GPSVIEW tool does communicate with the GPS Reciever.. just tOMTOM not working
i have v5.00 and got it working but the next time i loaded it up the com port didnt show up whenever i try to update it it dosent show my maps so im stuck with 5.0. I also have i guidance and i cant seem to get it to update.
tomrom 5.21 works very well with their own GPS device as their tech support will tell you. If you try to pair it with any other that is not exactly the same you will have less than satisfactory results. I wasted way too much time doing the same experiments as you all are doing and when my GPS tomtom receiver arrived, it paired quickly as do all the others I tried but then when I launched the program and selected the tomtom receiver. it went on line with 6 satellites within 5 seconds and that was inside the room here next to a window. The position on the map was within about 10 ft. with full zoom. It is fast and sensitive and appears to be accurate.
My suggestion is to forget trying to use all those NMEA 0183 compatible receivers and buy the tomtom 0183 v2 and be happy. My only regret is that tomtom wasn't more specific in their advertising about this and led me to believe that any NMEA receiver would do. Only their tech support says otherwise.
