I previously had a ppc-6600, and recently got the 6700. I tried a couple of BT headsets with the 6600, and always had lots of static. If I stuck the phone in the belt clip, it would instantly get some amount of static, and if I put the phone on the other side of my body from the headset, static was really annoying.
I ordered a Plantronics Voyager 510 from Newegg because it said it could sync to multiple devices (I wanted to be able to use it as a hands-free headset for my computer VOIP programs, although now in practice I see this really doesn't work like I would hope). However, on both my computer (using an Airnet bluetooth USB dongle), and on my phone, I get a decent amount of static. It doesn't always occur, but it can occur even if I have the phone sitting two inches away from my headset. I had to disconnect & reconnect a call because they were so staticky, I could no longer hear them.
Is static on BT devices just plain unavoidable? I would have ordered a BT800 because I have seen lots of good success with it on this board, but it didn't state that it could switch between two devices.
Am I being too anal on this issue?
While driving around town, with it in the belt clip from Sprint, I sometimes have clarity, and sometimes I have a bit of static. What is weird, is I can walk a good distance away from the phone, and it still works, and doesn't get TERRIBLY staticky until I go through a couple of rooms, but it doesn't get PERFECT within feet of my head!
Maybe you are gettin interferance from another source? I only notice static or breakup in the call if I take my 510 more than a room away from my 6700. Other than that it tends to be rather clear.
People have to realize the environment you're in when you test BT headsets. Thats why one person will review a headset and say it was perfect while another person will say the opposite. When you're in certain environments you have to take into account all radio waves because your BT connection is just a radio signal, just like you wi-fi network in your house, the cordless phone, etc.
I own the BT800 but i don't use it much. Its a good headset, but I use the good old BT200 most of the time. The BT800 makes my ear sore after wearing for a while, where I can wear the BT200 all day and forget its there. I should have got the BT500. The BT800 does help on a windy day though, and the caller id is nice but not as necesary for me as i thought.
I returned all my other headsets, because the JX-10 by Jabra has given me the least amount of static. Still, occasionally, every 10 calls or so, I have to hang up and redial someone, because I will sound like complete static to the other person. I haven't had that happen recently where they degenerated into complete static to my ear.
I wished such expensive toys would work better than that. I didn't just ditch the headset because it is very nice not to have to find the wires on my headset, pull the phone out of the holster, and attach it while driving. Its just irritating that it doesn't work better.
I have no clue of how to decide if my phone's bluetooth itself has a problem, my 6600 seemed to be worse, and I don't see why both of my phones would have done the same thing.
I get this static in random places too, its not limited to when I am sitting in front of an (electrically) noisy computer or something.
I'd say the nxZen 5500 was next best, but it was significantly worse, and the Voyager 510 was the worst of the three. I do like how the jx-10 is so small, and comfortable. Volume was OK with the stock earpiece, and putting an eargel on it made it better. I liked one of the eargels that came with the nxZen best though.
i have a bt800 that is amsing , in my how the thing works while the phone is upstairs i am downstairs , plus i am selling it , as i really do not use it as much as i thought i would , so you are in luck $85 shipped and it is yours. the thing is the smartest headset on the market, it have a lcd screen in on the headset itself has, things like setting menu and you can control and see where your battery power is at. ring tones , biult in or use the same one you use on your phone , plus i already told you about the reception. let me know , I bought it for 179 at best buy , plus tax.
I have the Motorola H700 and have zero static in the car. I get a little static indoors but outdoors with phone on my belt it is unbearable. I have a wireless router inside so why would there be more static outside. This stuff is driving me crazy. I think I will go out and use cash and buy different ones and do some testing. I want the H700 to work really badly as I don't like the looks of the others you guys have suggested. No offense just my opinion.

The static is not the ear pieces...I have tested my Ear Piece on my girlfriend Motorola and it works flawless not one bit of static at all..on my 6700 static from time to time only though...so I guess there isn't much you can do about it.
Like I said earlier, if you get static, try Hard re-pairing it under various conditions. The terminology is not consistent, you have to read your manual. One test that you got it right is you have to "Hard" re-pair it if you want to pair it with a different device. Sometimes you have to hard re-pair if you hard reset your 6700 (I can't recall but I think you do, deleting the pairing from bluetooth settings is not enough). Everytime you hard re-pair it it looks for the best "channel". If you use the same conditions it will probably find the same channel. You want to force it to use a different channel. Just like your cordless phone some channels work better than others.

i am definately curious about whether or not the BT circuitry in our 6700's is really one of the few weakenesses the phone has. bc i have heard many people having problems with various bt headsets. i talk on the phone so much now that i decided to get a really nice wired headset for when it is absolutely paramount that i can be heard clearly. I am very very impressed with how wind seems not to affect it at all.
i also have the moto bt speaker as well and am fairly happy with it. I am looking at the jx-10 as my next bt headset bc i have seen more really good info and reviews on it than negative but i think the 6700 might be the culperate when i see bad reviews of it since most seem to be very positive. tried it with different phones?
Yes, the caller ID works on the headset. It will also let you see the last 10 phone numbers on the headset and allow you to dial any of those numbers from it.
I set my headset about 10 feet away from the phone and did a full pairing from scratch. Now there is little static. Much better range. My guess is if you pair and the headset is too close it is locking on a marginal channel. If you have static, try this and see if there is any improvement.
I have experimented for a while with longer distances on my headset.
If I try to pair from the length of my arms (about 6 foot), it goes okay, but when I try to make a call, even from 5 inches away, the headset beeps to indicate the call start, but no sound ever comes through. The phone indicates call in progress. The headset also cannot start or stop a call.
I can reliably pair at about a foot or two, but I still get lots of static when talking to people. I constantly get people telling me to repeat myself because of static, and occasionally devolving into complete static on one or both sides of the conversation.
Could you pair from longer than 10 feet and have it work at all?
