If you're not ready or willing to shell out anywhere from $75 to $300 for a PDA ready GPS solution (bluetooth receiver, software, maps, etc.), then Earthcomber is, in fact, a decent alternative. I downloaded it and I like the UI, as well as the driving directions functionality. Travel guides, known as "Spot Guides," cost extra and I haven't yet tried those. You can, however, get info. on specific commercial establishments (e.g., coffee shops, hotels) as part of the free and included "Look Lists." Overall, a very good program.
