Now that we know they're listening to us (from their posts in the extended battery thread), let's make a list of accessories that 6700 owners might be interested in.
Of course a 2400mAh standard-sized battery for under $50 is everyone's first choice, but they're already working on something (probably not 2400 though). What else do you want?
Here's my vote:
A keyboard overlay that serves three functions:
1. A soft glow-in the dark overlay with letters, numbers, and SYMBOLS, so we can see symbols in the dark and leave the keyboard backlight off when not needed.
2. Extra texture to improve tactile feedback - something to give each key a unique feel, or at least to highlight the separation between keys.
3. Extra friction to prevent the keyboard from sliding out on its own.
Of course, the overlay would have to be removable without a trace so that if/when we have to go to Sprint for warranty issues, they don't make a big deal out of it.
What do you think? What other accessories would you like?
How about a belt case that has a magnetic flap. Will hold the XV6700 pocket for spare std size battery, and 2-4 SD cards. Prefer standard SD card (mini with adapter). The main phone pocket should be designed to not cause the buttons to be pushed or the screen pressed and be user expandable so the phone may fit properly whether using the standard battery or an extended back battery. Inside I carry the original phone battery back but plan to eliminate this when I switch to two standard size batteries rather than one big and one standard.
On the one end of the case make a simple strap-in pocket to sto a BT headset such as the Motorola flip HS-850. I have modified my case with a velcro strap that workes perfect.
OK here's a real original idea- Along the bottom of the case, have an end feed tube that stores a pair of +2 reading glasses. I have a set of these from Staples and am modifying my current IPAQ belt case to hold one of these end feed storage tubes for the reading glasses. These glasses make reading the very tiny screen print easy and allow you to put more on the screen without needing to expand the view.
•Standard Sized Battery with as close to or more than 2000mAh capacity.
•Horizontal Leather pouch like the one above, but with magnet in the center of the case (so no accidental turn on problems). Case must have bottom corners covered and as large a top flap as possible to cover as much of the top of the case as possible.
I want a game controller that holds the phone sideways and plugs into the usb port. It would have a battery in the controller also to help power the phone for extended play. It would slide open slightly allowing you to place the phone in the center of it then close shut holding the phone sideways and plugging into the usb port. Ideally it would have 4 shoulder buttons and the joypad and 4 top buttons as pictured in my horrible mspaint thrown together concept. I just imagine playing Doom and Quake via wifi like this and it give you full access to the keyboard.
One thing that bugs me on the 6700 is dialing using the soft keys. The the sony P900 ? has a removable hard key flap that gives you real buttons that tap the soft screen keys.. This would make for easier dialing.. The problem is that the phone app and key lock screens on the 6700 have different key layouts.
One the not of lighted keyboard. My friend just got the Cingular 8125. The letters light up a lot brighter and the symbols actually light up as well. That's the one down side about that keyboard. In the Dark you can't see where any of the symbols are, which to me doesn't make sense why they didn't illuminate them.

Hows about the manufacture gives us a better keyboard. The KJam has a great tactile keyboard.
I've been a Sidekick user for three years, and when Danger came out with the SidekickII, made by Sharp, the keyboard backlight did not shine through the alt characters either. There was quite an uproar at hiptop.com and the manufacturer corrected the issue.
We shouldn't have to memorize where all the alt characters are on such an expensive device, just so we can use it in the dark.
DELman,
You're on the right track, except that what we need is a decent case WITHOUT a magnet. If you look around the forum you'll see that magnets do wierd things to the 6700, like turning it on, answering calls, etc.

Agreed! Unfortunately, mine has those magnets. I did some testing and the triggers are located on the front of the phone at the joystick. The trick here is to put the phone in the case with the screen facing toward the body, rather than the flap with the magnets. This also makes it easier to put in and take out of the case with one hand because it puts the antenna up and facing front. If you put the phone in the case with the antenna facing down or toward the back, then yes, the magnets do interfer causing the issues you stated. But this also makes putting the phone in and taking it out much more difficult!
Also, I got into the habit of powering the XV6700 off and having the buttons disabled when off when I put the phone in the case.
The only issue remaining is that the phone turns itself on when it receives a call and while in my case. Then once that happens, even if I decide to ignore the call (ringer on ring once) the phone is now turned on and this enables the phone to be bumped and return that call automatically. This is extremely annoying and has caused me extreme grief to date. I have tried the password solution but this is equally inconvenient when needing to answer the call as it is never fast enough.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know I appreciate your comment on my case home-made / modified for VX6700 but that magnets and the fears mentioned are only an issue if you try to sto the XV6700 face out so the buttons are next to the magnets.
More pictures-
Here is the Reading glasses case attached to the bottom of my XV6700 case case. (available at staples) This is beginning to be my Holy Grail of PDA cases. I want something I can quickly grab when I go, put it on my belt, when in the field for a day -- I won't be wanting for anything. I have one more mini device to add which is a sandisk Mini SD to USB adapter. That will attach on the opposite end side as the BT headset. With that, I believe will complete my road warrior kit.
PS- I'm posting all this stuff here so the mfg'r will get a clue to what, at least one road warrior has done because none of the mfg's are doing enough on their own. They should feel free to take the ideas and improve upon them with a full built from the gound up case.
Well I have a good one for them and it should be pretty easy to make and validate. I would like to see a micro sd to mini sd adaptor. The reason I say this is because there is a company that is making an 8gb micro sd drive that would be great for pda phones. I can't find the forum but if someone could find it and post the link to that forum for them to see it would be great.
For the ones who didn't see that was 8gb for $99. U can't beat that.
Nice idea but have you learned yet that WM5 has an upper limit of 2Gb ? Those cards greater than 2Gb are for other applications, like digital cameras. Anyway, I have not tested this myself. I got it from the people at sandisk!
BTW- the sandisk multi USB adapter is nice accessory and seems to be the smallest USB multi SD card adapter around. I pulled my mini 2Gb card from the camera stuck it in that miniUSB adapter to upload the picture taken and shown above from my XV6700.
I'd like confirmation too. I only found one person who showed proof he had a CF 4G card working on a Dell Axim. The issue seems to be whether you have the latest SD standard installed in your OS. Anyway, I think this debate is not timely for this thread.
I would like to have a leather horizontal case with a fixed belt clip that would completely cover the phone except for the antenna. I want the phone to be protected from scrapes and foreign material and water while being carried. When carried on the right side, the antenna should point forward (screen toward body) and the case should not allow buttons to be pushed. A small magnet for a closure device would be ok.

Do you mean something like this case from Sena? (Scroll down to see what is supposed to be the PPC-6700 version, although it looks to be the same as the XV6600/PPC-6601 model at the top.)
I have seen that case and it is close to what I am looking for. I would like to have the ends (except for the antenna) and the bottom closed, but this is the one I may have to buy if I can't find anything else.
