how do I connect to Verizon EVDO?? what speeds should I expect??
Ok, so the Verizon store I got the phone from didnt really give me any run-down on how to do anything. Im relying on you guys to help me out. I called Verizon Tech support to see how to even connect to the internet, they told me that it does the #777 dial, then to connect I use my wirelessnumber@vzw3g.com and password vzw. Is this correct? The people at the store told me that it doesnt dial, and that its just always connected and I can still recieve calls while browsing. Another thing that the Tech help told me is that the speed is no faster than a 14.4 modem. Broadband my ass. Is this all true? I want to make sure this is set up correctly. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

IIRC, the setup sounds right. It's been a long time since I did that with VZW. The dial-up indicator will likely appear everytime you connect. That seems to be a bit of an issue with this handset.
As for speeds, you will like see about 80 Kbps in a 1xRTT area and between 200-400Kbps in EVDO areas. The indicator at the top of the screen will show you either 1X or EV depending upon service availability in your area.
READ the sticky threads at the top of the thread list. Several hacks are necessary to assure speedy function of this handset and these threads contain all the info you will likely need.
Good Luck,

Im in a EVDO area currently, but the speeds are nothing short of pathetic on most all sites. I wasnt sure about the dialing. I used the #777 thing before with my old motorola v710 and USB cable (on my laptop), and that was very slow as well. I just figured the broadband thing had a different type of log-on that meant faster speeds.

Go to dslreports.com/mspeed and run the speed test using the 600K file. That will tell you your throughput on the device.

rduckworth (or anyone "in the know")... thanks for the info on that but can you throw me a bone here hehehe. I just read all the stickies up top for about the third time and didn't see any info about optimizing the EVDO connection. Do you have a link or page number in one of the stickies or better yet specific information on the hacks to optimize?

There was a discussion thread last week or so about a software package that would optimize the RWIN value on the 6700.
There were mixed results. Try a search in this forum for "RWIN" or something similar.

Thanks for the help Bob, I did that tuning and it is much better now. I did do a search but its hard to know what to search for when youre new to the site. Now just as a confirmation, when I am browsing, I can not receive incoming calls correct?

If you are on EVDO service, yes, calls will interrupt the data service and ring through to the phone. If on 1xRTT, no, all calls will go to voice mail while data is active.
