Consensis on WMA stuttering solution?

Before anyone says it, YES I've read EVERY question and response on this, and I'm a little leery of trying something that on one page the person is all excited about, and on the next post page the change caused one or more unintended consequences to the person's 6700 and/or their sex life. I'd like to avoid that, and so I'm wondering if there is some consensis on this problem. It's my major gripe with the 6700. It was horrible, then I dropped the bit rate down to the lowest (I rip/synch from my own cd's), and I quit using an off-brand mini-SD and got a 1gb Sandisk. That helped A LOT, but it still skips. Tried closing everything out, clearing the IE Cache, soft rebooting, nothing changes... Can't abide with the stuttering...

There seems to be (at least) two different ways of looking at solving this problem -- change the glyphe (?) cache, or change the priority (or both). Which/how/why?

Which registry editor are people using and why? The phm regedit seems to be popular, but is OLD (2002?) http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=31
Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Larry Becker

I think you are talking about the little stutters or pops/clicks that you hear when playing music with the phone?

There seems to be a lot of suggestions for fixing that. Some people have said that clearing the PIE cache will help.. :/

I don't know about that, but I know of 3 work arounds/fixes for my setup.

1) If I have the phone plugged in to charge the tracks wont skip.

2) running pocket hack master (simply running the program, no overclocking needed).

3) set wavedev priority to 1

I have 2 and 3 running on my phone and while in the car 1 is in effect also. I no longer have problems with skipping.

wavedev hack or overclocking app will solve your problem - it did mine - i prefer the wavedev obviously since it's permanent (save a hard reset) - use whatever program you want for the registry...i prefer phm regedit for free (it's posted by me in the tips and tricks page) or use the regedit function of resco explorer - not free but available as a trial. both work fine.

i'm not sure how the glyphcache would help you with music skipping...that's more of a visual hack. i doubt any sort of cache change would make a difference considering it probably won't have cache the mp3 or wma you are about to listen to.

Yup, Eric Clapton is happy now...

Backed up the registry, searched for wavedev, made the change, did a soft reboot, and all is well. THANKS SO MUCH!!!! I have the ThinkOutside BoomTube coming soon, so I'll be set.

What bitrate can I use now? I have it set for the lowest rate/smallest file because it was causing me skipping issues, but now... I suppose I can set it higher. Trade-off would be number of files. I have only a 1gb card ($57.99 at Fry's last week, w/ $8 rebate), so I'm a little limited.

What a great site, and what helpful people!

What's wrong with them? It was pretty slick ripping them from cd's and synching them to the 6700's storage card. Am I missing something? I initially used the mp3 format but had to manually put them on the card with a card reader, and then didn't get the cover art that Windows Media files usually have.

Is there some kind of "Gotcha" using them? Is there some kind of limit on how many times you can play them?

Thanks,

Larry Becker

i think 190kbs vbr is pretty much standard for mp3s now...can't get much better quality then that anyways without wasting space.

Yup, that is one of the best improvements the new ROM offers and one of the most compelling reasons to upgrade (even if you are not interested in Push).
