I'm looking for a good registry cleaner that will work well in WM5. There are a few that are updated for Windows Mobile 5, and many more for WM2002/2003.
To those of you with the program, how is the backup function in SKTools? Would it work almost as well as Sprite or SPB for weekly complete backups or do they provide a lot more? Also would it replace the functions in Total Commander? I'm trying to decide what software to get for my soon to arrive PPC-6700.
Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. That SKTools program looks like sure winner and I'd love to have the ability to not only clean up, but perform the same functions of Sprite (haven't used it, but haven't taken the plunge) and take the place of Total Commander (just one less program).
Thanks for all the extremely valuable information.

sgmidf sent me a private message with the same questions and this is how I responded:
"I've had Sunnysoft Backup and SKTools since September when I bought my PPC-6700, received Sprite Backup and SPB Backup as free licenses for having assisted with the beta testing of both products, and recently purchased MemMaid. For the easy part, SKTools and MemMaid are both great programs, and although there is some overlap, in my opinion they are both worth having. SKTools is a little more "techy" and powerful, but for ongoing cleanups it doesn't get easier then MemMaid.
For backup programs, SKTools backup is a "last resort" option since it doesn't handle the PIM files and registry very well and doesn't have some of the bells and whistles like self-extracting and remote backups. Sprite and SPB are both good backup programs, but my preference is Sprite because of its maturity and remote backup capability. If I had to prioritize these programs, I would rate Sprite or SPB backup first (depending on what features are most useful for you), folowed by SKTools and then MemMaid.
Regarding Total Commander, you should still install that (especially since it's free). It's a file explorer on steroids that has FTP and other nice features in addition to the registry editing, and doesn't really overlap much with SKTools and MemMaid.
Hope that helps."
BTW, I prefer not to respond to PM's that repeat the same questions being asked in the public forum, since topics of general interest need to be discussed where the most people will benefit. This is a perfect example of that.
One thing that I haven't figured out, is just how the hell to get to the FTP features? I have an FTP and would love to access it but I can't for the life of me figure that out. I do really like Total Commander so it'll never go but I'm going to look into both SKtools and Sprite or SPB for backup duties.
Thanks again for sharing this info with us.

FTP intructions are on this page. The "url button" they refer to is the "\\" at the top of the window and if you double click on that you will get the choices for FTP, LAN and Registry.

I just had to ask - you mentioned that you had Sunnysoft before. How does it compare to Spb / Sprite for backups?

It's been a while since I used Sunnysoft, so rather than comment on my own and confuse it's features and performance with Sprite and SPB, I'd point you to this review of backup programs. My experience with Sunnysoft wasn't quite as bad as his, but I do remember several things not looking right after a hard reset and restore, so I think Sunnysoft needs at least another release before it is ready for prime time on WM5.
If you're trying to decide between Sprite and SPB, here are some updates to the original comparison that might help.

I agree with this re: SunnySoft. It didn't work well for me which I find puzzling as others have reported it's the cat's pajamas. This was early on with the handset, way before any hacks were applied. Also, I have yet to be able to remove SonnySoft from the handset despite trying all permutations of SKTools, registry key deletions, Remove programs, etc.
Nasty stuff remains stuck in my Control Panel page and attempts to run when tapped only to tell me that the trial period has expired.
YMMV,
