I had a bunch of trouble getting the 6700 to recognize my home wireless network. I checked through the forums (search for SSID!). I had the router set to mixed (B & G), no encryption, open, SSID broadcast disabled. I added a new wireless network and typed in the SSID - still no connection.
I removed the previously added connection and set the SSID to be broadcast. Sure enuff, the 6700 recognized the network but would still not connect.
Here's the tip - I did a soft reset. Now the connection was made successfully. I reset my SSID to be not broadcast and it still works fine.
I set thsi up a long time ago for my own personal browsing from my wi-fi enabled HP5400...
It's free (no ads or anything like that) can be surfed by any device that supports plain HTML pages (phones or PDA's): www.ppcportal.us
Enjoy.
It works really good on the xv6700. Take the time to learn the program, you won't regret it. It even closes (a REAL close) when you press the OK on the KEYBOARD. It does this by default. Program so many keys to do launch programs. It even lets you press 2 keys and you can see what's running and switch to which ever app you want.
To prevent your Today background screen from getting reset every time you do a soft reset, take any file management program and go to \Windows\StartUp. There should be a link to a program called __cusTSKTEMP.exe. Delete this link (or move it someplace else if you feel awkward about deleting things inside \Windows). I have tested this on a Verizon phone.
EDIT: Make sure you read the whole thread that is linked to in this post. Don't install the first files you see...you want the latest. Currently Kokkos has modified Paul_Hammons' smartdialer files into a .cab file and offered his own skins. This is the best solution but there is still an error with the EVDO arrows (when vision is connected) not correctly displaying whether the connection is active or dormant. The radio is still working fine but the arrows get stuck on either white or gray and do not change. Hopefully there will be a fix soon but the benefits of smartdialer outweigh this minor problem.
ALSO. BEWARE. Once you install the smartdialer it CANNOT be uninstalled at this point. The skin can be uninstalled and will work without smartdialer.
enable smartdialing - thanks to "Paul_Hammons" for his EXCELLENT work in figuring this out - certainly one of the best hacks to date for this phone. this is a MUST HAVE.
thanks paul!,

since i can't edit my post, here's the complete smartdialing breakdown - thanks to kokkos and paul_hammons - a must for all our phones if you ask me.
smartdialer enabled skins, such as those available from each of the links above, are necessary for the smartdialer to work.
also, the skins and the smartdialer can be uninstalled from "uninstall programs" - so if you don't like it, uninstall. it is recommended that when changing skins, you uninstall the old skin first, soft reset, and then install the new skin, followed by a soft reset.
once again - all props to Kokkos and Paul_Hammons for their hard work on this project!

Got this off the Windows Mobile Team blog. Works for me, the SIP stops popping up:
Quote:
Make the SIP stop coming up. The PocketPC has a "Soft Input Panel" (SIP). This is the little software keyboard that pops up at the bottom of the screen. (It can also be various types of handwriting recognizers, etc.) If the device has no hardware keyboard, the SIP will pop up automatically whenever you get to a place where you can enter text. If there's a hardware keyboard, though, we assume you want to use the keyboard instead of the SIP and don't make it pop up automatically. However, if you tap the little SIP button once, we suddenly decide that you want the SIP to deploy automatically again, even though you've got a hardware keyboard. Maybe you did, or maybe you let a friend look at your PocketPC and he said, "Hey, what's this do?" and tapped it. If you want it to stop coming up automatically, let it pop up once and use the hardware keyboard as though the SIP wasn't there. When you use the hardware keyboard, the SIP will go away and won't come up again until you tap the icon. (The common mistake people make here is to put the SIP away and then start typing on the hardware keyboard. That will put it away, but it'll come back again when you go to a new text field.)
I know this has been mentioned, but it is worth detailing...in case others didn't know.
I use SPB PocketPlus 3.1, which has a multitude of commands that you can map to any button. I use the [Alt-Tab switch-programs] command, and have it mapped to the Start button. Also, this program has the option to really close windows, as well as a "tap and hold" function for the "x" in the upper right corner. The program has a multitude of other options too.
I can't see why others like handyswitcher, dynamo, etc. and what not--it simply doesn't make sense to me. SPB has it all. Yes, it uses a good amount of memory, but the F&B's far outway anything else, IMHO.
Other fav's about PP 3.1:
Battery Indicator
Ability to have more than on PIE window open
Safe mode reset
Full Today Plugin for launching apps
I can't see why others (jeff, etc) like handyswitcher and what not--it simply doesn't make sense to me. SPB has it all. Yes, it uses a good amount of memory, but the F&B's far outway anything else, IMHO.
for me it was a different opinion - you like the extra features, and so do i - but the program was just too large for me and had too many things i'd never use - handyswitcher is sleek and to the point with not a huge footprint and an ever-expanding list of capabilities. it's come a long way, that's for sure - i've tried many other programs but for me handyswitcher works best - especially when you bind it to a hardware button - i think i posted about my experience with this earlier in this thread.
EDIT: yep: http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...5&postcount=42
what's the tip? well unfortunately microsoft is missing a big piece of functionality in their software and any new user of this or any other wm 5.0 phone should get a task switcher program - be sure to evaluate your options carefully and decide if you want a large, extensive program that does many things or a simpler, smaller program that just does one thing and does it well.
that being said, i use multiple other small programs along with handyswitcher to get the functionality i need, without the extra stuff i don't need that's also included in spb.

was just answering a question on another thread and figured it probably would be best here:
need more power? don't want to change the battery on your phone multiple times?
try this - not only will it charge your phone 2-3 times (assuming stock battery), but you can use this solution for many other things if you're creative - it's been mentioned before but not in this thread.
i have both chargers and 2 sets of 2500 mAh (i still have the 2200 mAh batteries but i haven't found a use for them yet) and they have been a lifesaver when used in combination with the boxwave - a backup battery may be better for you, but you have to soft reset to change the battery and it doesn't charge nearly as fast as the energizer 15 minute charger.
hope this helps some people who haven't discovered these products yet,
-jeff

Or just get one of these - http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a...reviews&id=585. I love mine - took me through a couple of days with no luggage. Over on the 6600 forum there was a guy who was on a mission somewhere in Africa and he said his kept his stuff charged for a couple of weeks. And I've got solar panels that will charge my phone, too! - sheureka
i'll add another post because i think this information is useful (and thus a tip) to help users choose which product is best for them, based on their specific needs.
anyways,
from what i was told by someone better at electrical physics than me, having the 4 2500 mAh batteries in the boxwave adapter are equivalent to 3247 mAh (by using the voltage comparison of 1.2 to 3.7 for batteries to li-ion, respectively, and doing the math).
compare 3247 to 7200, it's a little more than twice as much power - however, it is easy to carry spare energizer AA batteries if necessary, and they can be recharged in 15 minutes as opposed to 7 hours for the larger device - you can also buy the slower, energizer car charger, if necessary (which also works on AC power in your house...but the 15 minute charger is obviously superior).
it comes down to which solution works better for the way you use your phone.
hope this helps,
-jeff

WM5torage makes your Windows Mobile 5 device a USB Stick
Just ran across this application from unwired that when you activate it and then connect your phone to a PC, the PC detects the device as a removable drive, just like connecting a USB thumbdrive. The one downside is that this apparently would not be at USB 2.0 speeds. I installed this on my 6700 and it works as promised. Didn't try to see how fast it was, just wanted to see if it would work and pass on the information.
I don't remember how I found this, but if you're using Yahoo mail, it obviously doesn't work on your 6700. Try this: http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/ It's not as pretty as your "My Yahoo" page but you can respond to mail, compose new messages, and save mail in folders that you may have.
Hi Guys;
I think I have a solution to the Battery drain problem with the XV6700 PDA phone. It looks like Ative sync is trying to come on and sync draining the power from our units. Talked to a verizon tech. who provided the available info. Hope it helps. Sure has been an irritant not being able to trust my phone. Here's the instructions:
Go to program files
Go to active sync
Go to menu
Go to add server source (add a fake server and settings)
Once that is finished
Go to Schedule and set to manual
Go to options and delete exchange server from options
Working good so far. For the first time I have had 90% power all day long. Always before it would go down to 60% power or less in one day with no phone calls or gaming.
Please note that some have reported this "trick" is not compatible with the NEW Sprint AKU2/MSFP Rom update. Others have reported it works with the ROM update if you turn off the network time sync under phone settings
