Phone to laptop interface for web browsing questions for Sprint and Verizon

I've gotten 3 different answers from Sprint regarding the interface to a laptop for web browsing. The last answer was from a tech that a supervisor brought onto the call with us. As I understand, the phone includes a USB data cable that interfaces the phone to the Laptop to allow the laptop to surf the internet through the phone. In addition to a phone plan, a "PowerVision" $20 or $25 data plan is required, but no other plans are necessary. Bandwidth is from 400-700Kbps with 2Mbps bursts, and data volume is unlimited. Blue tooth connection to the laptop is not supported.

As far as Verizon is concerned, it appears they have disabled the ability to surf from a laptop through the phone even if you have the data plan for the phone. Apparently they want you to pay extra, (like $80), just to use your laptop. Does anyone know of a hack to activate the USB web surfing interface on the Verizon 6700? Verizon claims the same bandwidth as Sprint, and I assume the interface to Exchange server would be the same.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger and give Sprint a try, but I am a little anxious about the successor to the 6700, the 6800. I hear rumors it may be out in 4 to 6 weeks, but I have no info on what improvements it will have over the 6700.

Also, if anyone has conflicting info please let me know, as I said earlier I have had 3 different answers form Sprint on this. (I didn't have time to give Verizon a chance to screw it up).

Hello and welcome. Before posting, it is a good idea to do search as often times, your question will have been covered in great detail. Since you are new here, I will answer your questions this one time. Please try to search first next time though

1. It is possible to tether the Verizon 6700 to the laptop for data access. Search for "Verizon USB DUN" to find the thread that explains how to do it. It will be $45 for unlimited data plus whatever voice plan you want.

2. The 6800 is at least 9 months away (possibly longer). I'm not sure where you are getting your information from (hopefully not a Sprint rep) but if it was right around the corner, it would be all over this board. Successor models are almost never released less than a year apart.

3. All you need for Sprint for tethering to the laptop is a $15 Power Vision plan, the $25 plan is not compatible with the PPC-6700. Bluetooth is not officially supported by Sprint but is possible. See the sticky tethering thread at the top of the forum for more information.
