how to edit mp3 file for use as ringtone?? (noteM conflict??)
Does anyone know if there is any tool out there that can edit a mp3 file? I am using a mp3 file as my ringtone. But it is not loud enough and not long enough. I know how to do that with Sound Recorder if it is a .wav file. But Sound Recorder does not work on mp3.
Also, I have some mp3 files that I would like to use for event notification. But apparently, the same location for ringtone is not the location for notification sound file. Because I place the files in that folder but they don't show up on the selection list for event notification. Does anyone know where they are?
i have downloaded mp3 converting software , converted to .wma, used mp3 splitter software to cut the file to 30secs or so...used activesync to add it to my phone, and then moved that file to my ringtones folder...
I have a MIDI file that I want to use as a ring tone. It worked beautifully before I had to do a hard reset and haven't been able to use it since. I have tried converting it to a WAV, etc. without much luck. I've googled searched, downloaded freeware, etc. and no luck. Does anyone have an idea on how to do this for the novice music person. I have been able to increase volume on songs, shorten them to use, but I really want to use this Flintstone file.
Thanks for all the responses. Actually, I was hoping someone can recommend an editor. Google gives me way too many choices and I have no idea which one is good and which one is not.
Furthermore, I don't need a tool to convert .wav to mp3 or vice versa. I just need a simple tool to manipulate the mp3 file like increasing the volume and extending the length by repeating the file.
And JAYNO20, thanks for the tips. I am not using .wav files for my notification, but I will put my mp3 files on the Windows directory later and see if it will work the same. The sony soundforge that you recommended sounds good, but the $200 price tag is too much for me. I just need a simple tool.
Definitely can do this. I make custom ringers damn near daily and chose to keep them as MP3's. I used to do mp4a files but I didn't gain anything so I went back to the regular MP3's.
Let me know if you want to download a couple and I'll make them available so you can listen and see what you think.

You just need an Audio editing program. I use Adobe Audition 2.0 to do my ringers (WAY OVER KILL but excellent) but I think you can use Nero Wave Editor or there are a couple other programs that can handle it, and are free.
I have the ability to make them from scratch but I have lots of tracks I wanted for ringers so I just modify and edit (some have language not suitable for public "ringer" use) tracks. I don't know if those free programs will let you zoom in on the track like professional editing software like Audition, so you might not be able to get "sounds" accurately. They may only give you secs. as points of editing, but I don't know for sure.
If you have the MP3's or tracks you wanted edited, I can do it for you. Just shoot me a IM and I we can chat.

Thanks for the offer... but I already have the sound clips. I have Sony Sound Forge 8 (overkill for this, but usefull for work/school) and have already made the clips.
How do I make the sound clips that I have already made (MP3), and that are on my phone, my ring tone?
this is my opinion but to each his own........dont put ur ringtones there. especially if u want to keep the space for more programs that need to go on your device. the way i do it is put it on my starage card. its a little cheat too. if your stire all your sound file on /storage card folder, not any subfolders within the storage card folder. ur phone will pick them up for your media player and ringtones. That way u dont necesarily have to have to different places for tones and songs. it works great for me.
again save them in the storage card folder( /storage card) nothing like /storage card/rings, get it?
No data card yet. I don't use that much of my phone's memory so I'll just use the other file path. THANK YOU HOTDOGWATER! I am saving money for parts for my Jeep!
Ringers on the storage card can present lags in pickup. Meaning, the OS has to access them and you may not get the ringtone starting as soon as the phone rings.
For me, using an average of 100kb per ringers isn't a big deal. I don't have more then 15-20 ringtones in use at any given time so I still have plenty of space.
But as it has been said before, YMMV

For what it's worth, ever since I started using Ringo, I've not had any issues with lag when playing from the storage card. Maybe a small lag, but nothing like it use to be. It rings probably ~3 seconds after it's connected on the calling party.
Maybe Ringo is keeping the card slot from going to sleep? I'm unsure, but it's working good for me.
