I'm brand-spanking new to the whole PPC arena, so please forgive my ignorance. I've been reading these forums all morning, and can't seem to find an explanation for a very curious Gmail phenomenon I'm encountering.
I set up my Gmail by following the instructions I found here, and I'm aware that Gmail has some issues, specifically regarding photos. My problem is that I can send Gmail just fine from my PPC, but receiving is somewhat random. I receive my Gmail at work as well, so I know that my phone isn't getting everything. My phone will maybe get one out of ever 6 messages.
No, I don't have either mail program deleting things off of the Gmail server when received. I want to keep everything on the Gmail server (part of the point of having Gmail in the first place), so of course I don't enable that delete option. I don't think it has anything to do with message size, either. For instance, I received 3 different notifications of a Netflix movies that were being shipped today. Only one appeared on my 6700.
Never mind, just did some testing and my "hypothesis" didnt hold water, trying to see if I see your issues.
Whats strangs is that the first time I syncd just now I got nothing, tried again 2 min later and polled everything fine. Liek the first connection fired a blank. Looked like it polled right but didnt.
I just sent 10 test messages and got them all. What was weird is one of them just disappeared off my device even thought I idnt delete it. If i did it should have moved to the dleted folder but it was in my inbox and then just poof. But its polled all my gmail files correctly so far.
About sending pictures as an attachment: The PPC 6700 adds a couple of extra bits of information. If you open the picture you want to send and rotate it 360 degrees and then save it, it will get rid of the extra bits. You can then send it as an attachment using google mail. Credit goes to someone else in this forum.
Yeah I found that little tidbit about sending pics... but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Right now I need to be able to receive my plain old Gmail. I could see getting none, or getting all, but not getting apparently random messages.
I had an issue similiar to this on the 6600. The problem turned out for me to be Gmail. I originally had the settings on Gmail to enable POP3 for all mail. After changing it to enable POP3 only from now on, everything seemed to work fine. Might be worth a try.
I did some experimenting...I had my wife send me 15 emails in consecutive order, spaced a few seconds apart. After the first couple came through on my work email, I triggered my phone to check, and discovered something very interesting...it's a moving target. If an email is "thrown" at Gmail JUST as the phone is scanning, it catches it. If an email is thrown but the phone is in one of the dormant periods, it misses it.
To add insult to injury, I came across the previously mentioned bug where new mail overwrites other new mail. Grrr.

i was having the same problem and this seemed to work for me also, just be sure you also click save for the new settings.
if you change any settings on your phone or even do a soft reset, it somehow changes the settings on gmail. you need to go back into pop settings and reset it to send and receive all mail.
can't figure out why, but that's the story.
thanks for the tip on sending pictures, that's been driving me crazy.
Hey all,
I was in a Sprint store yesterday, and there was a guy with a Treo (I think it was a 600) who was having problems getting his GMail account to work as well. I don't have any other info than that, but apparantly this issue is not directly related to the PPC devices...maybe it's a Sprint network thing?
Not sure if this will help anyone, but thought I would throw it in there.
It's a problem with gmail. Lots of people are having it, even non ppc users. Some don't get new mail at all, some have mail that is in the inbox on the device disappear when they send/receive. I looked into it and no combination of settings was ablt to fix the issue for me.
If you want to be able to receive Gmail reliably without forwarding it to another email address, take a look at WebIS Mail. It has special support for Gmail.
I know you'd rather have that same support in Pocket Outlook, but at least there's an alternative that works.
"mail that is in the inbox on the device disappear when they send/receive"
Yeah that exact thing happened to me in my testing, when it happened I thought to myself, nobody is going to believe me when I say this!!!
Alternatively, you could always use gmails wap web page http://m.gmail.com to get your mail, I have actually started doing this a bit just becasue it preserves gmails labels which I find usefull, and over ev-do its a cicnh to bring up as a favprite in PIE.
interesting....when I try to view/save as/create attatchments when in pie I can't bc they are not shown as an option in the pda recognized version of gmail...so others mention being able to click on a html link and get the full version of gmail. I have seen the screen shots of what they mean but I can't get to it on my phone no matter what I do. any thoughts since my poutlook is not working(the only way in the past I could get and "save as" attatchments). I seem to have my outlook accounts stop seeing new mail or able to send any time I try to send pictures as attatchments. how are you all sending attatchments over poutlook..in terms of..are they going thru?
the biggest issue I have is dissappearing poutlook accounts and furthermore, they will send emails just find but not only will they erase new messages but even worse now they won't even see or download emails even when there are clearly emails that are new in gmal in pie. I have tried everything an followed all the pages about setting up gmail. I have even tried changing the setting to only get 999kb headers only.
anyone else having poutlook have accounts dissappear from accessability even though when u attempt to re add the account the phone says that account is already in use even though I can't see it.
