anyone think of a way of physically removing camera without destroying the phone??
Ok, I know this will sound bizarre, but can anyone think of a way to physically remove the camera without destroying the phone?
I really like the XV6700, but I can't have cameras at work. So if there was a "safe" way to remove the camera then I might consider getting this device.

Why not just super glue a piece of something over the lens? Show your security people that it cannot be used. That way you don't have to totally trash it by removing it. Otherwise, I'd recommend another device. Physically removing the hardware will make a mess of your 6700.

Ascii stupid question, get a stupid Ansi.
I'm sure that you could get hold of the movable outer lens if and when you want to restore the camera functionality. (or yank it off and have the techs at the store fix it)
Is there a specific location on the FCC website where I could find this information?
You are a creative bunch. In order for it be secure I think that the hardware would have to be removed. It really sucks having this "no camera" restriction!
That's so cool! It shows me almost everything I'd need to know to remove that little camera. The one bit of info I didn't see is how the camera is connected (solder vs. socket). I'm guessing socket. Socket makes more sense from a repair standpoing anyway. However, I wonder how the thing would behave if the camera was gone?
it looks like a little ribbon cable/ socket type connecter to me.
^^ if security says he cant have a camera phone then he has to do it. Covering it up with anything that could possibly be removable could get him fired.
I'm really thinking I'll just go with another device, which is a shame because I really want this one. I guess it would be silly of me to void my warranty on a $400 device when there are other devices out there that will work.
Oh well, thanks for all your creative solutions.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen any hint that 8100/8125 is coming out too soon... but maybe I'll be able to hold off until then.
(non) Update** I just got off the phone with Cingular and the sales rep didn't have any idea about an 8100/8125.
didint you know first hand that your job does not allow photo capturing devices to be on premises b4 you purchased this phone? if you are still under the return policy just return it. dont tear up the phone. worse case just sell it on fleabay and use that money towards the new phone on cingular
wow Cingular's phone like this has a 200MHz processor.... Dont know if thats worth it because I have clocked mine down to about there to save battery and its almost worthless. Like I said it was only when im not using it to save the battery.
