PIE just keeps on saying "opening" when going to any website over EVDO
IE was working fine at work until i got home. It just keeps on saying opening when i try going into any website. It connects to evdo fine and says its connected. I turn on wifi and connect to my home wireless network and it browses fine. I have soft resetted it several times but no go. what can be wrong? thanks in advance for help..
I'm actually on hold with Sprint waiting for a tech support person... I too am having the exact same problem.
And the weird thing is that two of my friends are _not_ having the problem. One of these guys actually has the same phone (same version, yellow logo, bought new one week before mine). We were in downtown Baltimore with excellent signal... he had no problems getting into any websites... and mine hangs trying to get to even basic websites like the google site and sublinks or yahoo. His went through right away... and we were side by side.
My problems with it started yesterday.
So, why is it working for some people but not for others... especially when they're in the same strong signal location?
If the phones are "identical", then what's different about how we connect?
Let me add too that if I wait long enough, sometimes, the pages do come up... it could take 40 seconds or more most times. Sometimes, it sits at "locating" or "opening" for minutes, and sometimes, doesn't open at all!
Mine started working again. i had same problem this morning and it started working after lil while. Not sure whats going on with sprints network but its so annoying when you cant get on the web when you really need to chk something.
Mine just started working again too a few minutes ago. What the heck is going on? And why are only some people affected? It has been very unreliable over the past two days, and it's reeeeeally frustrating when it does not affect the person standing next to you with the same phone.
Is anyone else (other than the current posters) reading this post having the same problems?
And it's hanging again. OK, I give up. Still on hold waiting for a Sprint tech support guy. At this point, I'll be quiet on this thread unless something way different happens.
I was just on the phone with Sprint troubleshooting this problem. But my home phone accidentally disconnected. If the Sprint Tech is reading this, could you e-mail me or try calling me back on my cell phone? Please start the case number as you were mentioning... area code followed by my cell number. I've got the phone on now, so if you could call me back on my cell, I'd appreciate it.
Sprint reports EVDO issues on some Maryland Cells...
OK, I just got off the phone with Sprint's Advanced Technical Dept. We reviewed the problem, how it affects me, but not the person next to me. I was able to recreate the problem.
Earlier, another tech support person had me do a complete reset of my phone (as if it was a new phone that had to be activated.) EVDO was now working... but just for a few minutes. Same problem again. Stuck in "Locating" or "Opening" modes... each mode took about 40 seconds or more before moving to the next mode. Eventually the page would load. (Once in a while, the EVDO would time out.)
So, I called back to tech support, and they connected me to the Advanced Tech Support group.
Now, after telling the advanced tech support people that at least two other people are having the same problem (see the earlier posts in this thread) and that the problems started around the same time, she still indicated that it is probably a problem with my phone. Hmmmm. She said I have to swap my phone out for a new one (she even gave me a tracking number to do so.)
So, I was packing things up for a phone return tomorrow, and the tech called me back. She wanted to inform me that as of around 6pm central time (I'm in Maryland... Eastern Time), there was a report of a problem with a bunch of cells (100 or more) in Maryland that would affect EVDO. OK, that could be the problem. It doesn't explain why the guy who was standing next to me tonight with the same phone (he bought it a week earlier than me) had no problems while I kept getting these errors. I can't imagine that we were on different cells. (But who knows.) I kept resetting things on my phone, and still I got the cell that didn't work? Another friend of mine who lives on the fringe of Sprint service (still in the Maryland area) had no problems.
Just me.
So, I have a question to PhatMax and ThomasAnderson (the two posters up above)... are you located in Maryland too?
I asked the tech person when this started, and she didn't know... but she said it could have been going on for a few days... but she really didn't know. She said they don't have a solution to the problem yet (and I still wonder why I was the only one affected out of two of us within 2 feet of each other.)
Anyway, she provided me with the Service Alert number 730385. If you contact advanced tech support, they should be able to provide a status.
So, if the two posters above could let us know what state they live in, that would be helpful. (The tech person said she wasn't aware of similar problems in other states.)
if you think the sprint tech is reading this then try i really think you need spyware protection on your ppc. jk
Ummm... actually, yes, he _was_ reading this... he frequents the forum and was reading the pages of this thread along with me as we were troubleshooting it... in fact, I think he subscribed to it. (Leaving his name out of here for obvious reasons.)
I was having the same problem today for a few hours from about 6pm to 9pm est. I figured it was a network problem and decided to wait it out just using Wifi in the mean time. I'm in Boston-Cambridge btw.

Yes, I specifically asked if they were seeing problems elsewhere... She said no, the only problems were in the Maryland area. Since you're outside of Maryland (waaaay outside), you probably want to log a call with Sprint so that they know the problem is not just in my state so they can start working on a fix for it in areas outside Maryland too. (But, please tell them to fix Maryland's first.
I have had the problem of getting a error message that says "your modem has disconnected" intermittently for the last couple of weeks now. I have to open the connection manager and turn off the phone and then turn it back on again. It is a bit of a pain, but no where near as painful as having to spend an hour with tech support only to have them tell me to do a hard reset on my phone. I will be watching these boards to see if a solution comes up.
I am in NYC and I had problem this mornign again. It would say there is no modem for the connection and wouldnt connect to evdo. I just soft reset the phone and it was okay after. Its so damn annoying, hopefully they are workign on new rom for this phone.

Well, today, I was packing things to bring back the phone to the Sprint store for an exchange for a new 6700, and my wifi started acting weird (wifi was on and scanning, but EV was still active and wasn't indicating that I was in wifi mode.
Anyway, I have a new phone, and I'll be testing EV soon.
However, the problem with EV in our area might just not have been the phone itself. My buddy who tested EV fine last night when we were testing has the same problems with it today.
I'm assuming my new phone will have the same problem, then.
I'll let you all know if I hear any news about this.
I had the same problem when I was in Indianapolis on EVDO about 2 weeks ago. I would be able to browse for a couple of minutes and then it would be stuck locating. When I got back to the DC area, I did not experience this issue any more. This has got to be something network wide. Perhaps a botched tower code upgrade.
Just got a call from Sprint... they had opened up a ticket for the problem I was having. They indicated they're getting similar reports from the Maryland, New York, and Hawaii (!) locations. (Something like 100 or so cells in New York were affected?)
Anyway, if you're having similar problems, please call (per the Sprint rep) call 888-211-4727. At the voice prompt, say "Technical Support", at the next prompt, say "Data", and at the next prompt, say "Connection Card". That should bring you to Tier 2 tech support. What they really need is to get an exact (or as close as possible) location you were at when you had these problems (since they need to send people out to those locations to test). I would assume that the dates and times you experience these problems would be helpful too.
