How many times a day do you have to do a soft reset?

Just curious about how many daily soft-resets everyone else has to do.

I have to soft reset about 4-6 times a day, depending on what progs I am working with. Usually it’s a issue where EVDO bounces me or won’t open a connection. Sometimes it’s an ActiveSync 4.1 problem. I have a program called Stock Manager that hangs up ActiveSync the first time it tries to connect through it to a server. If I close and reopen ActiveSync it generally manages to connect the second time, but sometimes I need to soft reset my PPC as well. Also, every so often I get the dreaded BSOD and need to soft reset to pull out of it. So far, neither the phone or my BT connection has caused any soft reset issues.

Every soft reset means I have to: Reinstall my customized Today background picture. And run the little fix procedure caused by the Extended_Rom bug renaming my storage card. No big deal. Just a lot of little deals that add up to making me think it would be to find a way to permanentize both these things so they would just reinstall themselves each time. But I don’t feel qualified to go into the registry.

Anyway, is 4-6 daily resets normal around here? Or what?

(Hope this isn’t a double post. The first time the server was busy and I think the post got lost. The word must be out about what a great forum this is!))

About once a day to clear out memory and get it back from whatever evil holds it hostage.

rarely ever, this thing has been rock solid in terms of stability...you definitely notice it if you've had a treo 650. My 600 was solid but the 650 seemed to reset if I looked at it funny.

I think I've gone weeks without resetting it. I just make sure to clear out the stuff in memory once in awhile and its ready to go.

I typically have to soft reset 3-4 times per day. It's typically due to the inablility to activesync.

Send a message via AIM to cryogenic

once or twice a day because Agile IM loves to just randomly lock up my device. I don't understand why it does it but it just does.

About 7 times a day. My screen just goes blank. The LED light will be flashing but all of the buttons are not responsive. Soft resetting is the only way to fix it. It's driving me crazy!

Is SPB polling your SD card? Or perhaps another program?

Is SPB Pocket Breeze? I don't have that but I do have Pocket Informant. Sorry....I'm not too familiar with the lingo, what does "polling" mean? I want to find out what is causing this. It probably has something to do with the SD card because if I keep it out my Treo doesn't black out. But most of my programs, media files, etc. are on my SD card so I need to have it.

It depends - if I am playing around with new apps, then it's 3-4 times a day.

Otherwise it's maybe once a day - sometimes to clear out the phonePlus notifications, or sometimes just to make the 6700 snappier.

Ditto, except at bedtime for me before it goes on the charger for the night.

Thanks Joel! That's a very cool solution. It will cut my resets at least 60%.

Wow, I've had the 6600 and now the 6700 - they're great but definitely need to reset 5-7x per day. EVDO. wifi, and IMAP messaging are very fickle.

I don't think I've ever reset because of a lock-up, but I have reset a few times for software changes and hacks.

I terminate programs I'm not using and don't seem to have any sort of memory leak or sluggish response problems, so I don' t reset "just to clear memory"

What am I doing wrong
