Angry Phone acts like I have the headset connected

Has anyone had a problem with their 6700 behaving as though the headset is connected when it is not. I can make phone calls fine with the headset on, but when I disconnect the headset I can't hear anything and the mic doesn't work either. I've tried both a soft and hard reset with no resolution. I'm afraid I have a hardware issue, but was wondering if anyone has any other ideas. Sprint wants me to take it to the store to have it looked at prior to sending it in. The closest Sprint store is 20 miles away, and I know what kind of help I'll get from them.

It is a hardware issue that HTC doesn't seem to want to fix or don't know about...it seems to get stuck on headset mode once in a while...what you need to do is plug the headset in and out a few times and it will reset...I had this issue with my PDA2K, JAM and now the 6700...

I have the problem of it being able to take calls but I can't make calls. I dial and the other phone rings-mine doesn't-tech support said to take it back. I've had this happen twice and both times it was fixed by doing a hard reset. something I didn't want to do. The only headset I use is a bluetooth one and both times it had nothing to do with the bluetooth headset--hadn't used for quite awhile and it happened.
